OZM swingarm cable routing question

I am taking apart and parting out my '99 OZM and before I pull the rear derailleur cable out thru the swingarm I want to make sure that there is either a tube that actually runs thru it or should I leave the old cable to attach and pull the new one thru?   I seem to recall on my old 1996 Animal that there was NO tube thru the swingarm and I had to fish thru a tube to guide the cable thru.

there is a plastic cable tube in there attached to the end guides - one of mine broke off a ways back and I used a wire coat hanger to restring my rear cable thru the arm.

if you're hesitant at all, it certainly wouldn't hurt to attach a strong thread of some sort to the end of the cable when you pull it out.

Its been years since I was last on this forum and I basically forgot about it as well as my OZM hanging from the ceiling.    Its a real shame that I never took advantage of my OZM as I gave up MTBing shortly after I built it up - pretty sad taking her apart I have to say - she is uber clean and not even a scratch.

The carbon swingarms do have internal cable guides. The aluminum swingarms don't. It was not fun when I discovered this for the first time on my 756. Fortunately, it is possible to slide a bit of spare cable housing through the interior of the swingarm, using the cable itself as a guide, to make routing a new cable easier. (just make sure to remove the spare cable housing after the new cable is routed through the swingarm.)

I have to ask, why did you give up mountain biking? I can't really imagine any other kind of biking being half as fun. Road bikes are useless on the 99% of Earth's habitable land that isn't paved.

I got bit by the road bug back in 2001 just after I built up the OZM.    I live in Downtown Chicago and I was getting tired of driving to  Kettle Moraine in Wisconsin or to Palos every weekend inorder to hit the dirt and eventually put 1" slicks on the OZM for the lakefront.   While the 1" tires made a HUGE difference a just had to build up a Road bike which wound up being the K2 MOD5 which I went thru two of those frames as well as some others.   I am selling off the OZM in parts inorder to fund a new bike build that I want to get complete before the spring.

It was never exactly my size either - was a tad too large for me since I am only 5'5 but K2 never made this frame in a small.   

I do have a damn good looking Carbon Crosslink w/smart shock that needs to go as well

its better if the rear cable goes through the swingarm with out the stops.doing that elimnated ghost shifting on my 756(thats my input )
