Contacted Risse for a quote.
I'm going to order a Genesis unit with freedom plate for my XP-8, $246 US, £127UK at current exchange.
That price includes shipping to the UK.
The Astro was a little bit to steep for me, I'll try the Genesis and if I like it might trade up to an Astro at a later date!
Any comments or advice!

I have a genesis for sale currently - very good condition, not with cone, but why not just order that part from Risse - I think it's only $25 for shaft with cone. I don't think my Genesis will fetch much.

I recently got a genesis and an astro5 (front and rear)

My only problem with the front is that it doesnt quite clear the existing fork structure, im going to have to strip the forks and grind a small section away from the top swinging plate (dont know what its called!) It only clears the valve if the valve cap is left off and the plate is also touching the shock when no load is on the bike.

I'll try to take a snap at some point.

Of course it could be something ive done wrong, but im pretty sure it went back together ok.

I put a genesis on my carbon crosslink and it all went well, doesn't snag anywhere - although there wasn't enough clearance around the shock for a neoprene shock cover.

What type have you put yours on. If you can't sort it we could do a compare.

is the fork on the 856 the original girvin vector or a later crosslink???Did you order a shock to fit the respective fork?The noleen croslinks were slightly longer "upstairs" than the vectors or girvin crosllinks

the shock for the girvins(vector or crosslink) will (or should be) slightly longer than the shock for the noleen crosslink.Thats my understanding anyway.Perhaps you ordered (or got) the wrong front shock???

Mr 752..perhaps you should enquire about an x57 shock....as far as i know the taper is the same...I have asked risse a couple of time to confirm this but I reckon the taper never changed .The freedom plate is to make the x55 shock fit "OVER" the top of the taper...as the x57 shock came later they did nt feel it necessary to change their info....I reckon an x57 shock with built in taper would be the way to go on a x56 type strut.As long as someone can confirm the taper is the same!

pretty sure the NR4 that was on my way big 857 is the one now on my 855, so that would confirm it wouldn't it?

only if the 855 now has an x56 strut,otherwise the taper wouldnt mount to the flat x55 strut

I can see where you're coming from with this and in my opinion I would have thought from an engineering prospective machining the mount to fit in the cone would be a superior method than to fit the freedom mount over it.
I'll contact Risse again and ask for some pictures of the freedom plate.

check out the pis of the x57 shocks too..perhaps risse can give you the dimesions of the "cone" and you can measure up the xp8 shock.My risse has the freedom plate.....

Done a bit of a measure on the ODS unit
The adjusting nut is wound down a little so theres probably a +/- 5mm or so on the dimension.
Can anyone with a x57 type rear shock give me dimensions on theres, similarly anyone with an x55 rear end. Thickness of the mounting plate on the strut as well.
If what Eds saying about his 857 fitting his 855 is right, unless he has a x56 back end the cone should be the same!

OK, my NR4 (which was on my 857) on my 855 is also 189mm but there is an additional 6mm between the base and the strut which is the top of the cone (which is integral to the NR4). If anybody can tell me how I might know if I have an 856 strut or not I'll happily check.

Ed ,if you have a cone shape in the strut its an x56 strut....someone always used to come to the rescue here and post a pic of a x55 strut and a x56 strut...
