I think i better contact risse then about my shock fouling the fork.

I'll get a pic up of it first so you can all see what i mean, maybe others have ahd the same issue.

Any air shock will work as long as it clears the mounts. The flex is side to side. I have found that a more supple shock with longer travel nullifies the flex. Actually becoming a winning combo in my experience.

I have also been pondering purchasing a genesis with a 957 tapered end for my 856. Is the 957 and 856 cone tapers the same? Will it definately just "bolt" in?

they are different cone ends and will not interchange bewtten a 856 and an 857, yet you can get a genesis for each. i think they are a great substitute for the NR and are an improvement. the astro and terminator are very fine, yet this genesis is very nice for XC. plus it is owner servicably friendly

are you sure? I'm pretty sure I took the NR4 off my old 857 to put on my current 855 (with an 856 strut) and it fits fine...

I replaced the NR1 that came on the 957 frame I bought with a Risse, and then put the NR1 on my 657 (short swing arm, pivot behind bb) to replace the ODS and that worked fine. Don't know if that helps.

well the 657 was actually a x56 frame,so surely was an x56 strut as well...I would expect the 957 to have a nr4 or at least a nr2./Any how that seems to suggestt he cone is the same...what is your experience Carbon Angus to counter our beleifs?

I checked a couple of struts last night. The cone end on my 856 strut, and 957 strut are the same. The only difference was the length of the strut. The Noleen shocks as well as Risse have machined in cones. The ODS, GDS, and friction dampers have compression coned sleeves on a straight shaft.

I think the Risse freedom plate is the adapter for the elastomer strut.

the freedom plate is just a big flat washer that covers the cone depression in an x56 strut so that a x55 risse can be used on a x56 .I think an x57 type risse would be a better solution for a x56 as long as we can confirm(which terry seems to have done)

andy the problem may be that you have a risse shock for a noleen crosslink which may be too long for a vector or girvin crosslink

the shock for the girvins(vector or crosslink) will (or should be) slightly longer than the shock for the noleen crosslink.Thats my understanding anyway.Perhaps you ordered (or got) the wrong front shock???

I must have had to many red wines this night...i think i have this completely the wrong way round....
