Those HED wheels took me ages to get them, they're difficult to find.

I've just found in my LBS another old pair and probably I'll get them soon.
There were two kinds of this model: the carbon fiber one and the fiberglass that they made for the proflex animal.
Mines are the first ones (carbon), but the model of my LBS are from an animal, so they are the fiberglass ones.
Don't matter for me.

Seems they are more desirable than Scarlett Johanson dressed as she appears as the Black Widow in the marvel films. Those tight latex throusers can't bet the beautiful look of the Hed wheels...

well folks, after 3 years of finding and buying parts, while slowly assembling my 4500, it's about a minute or so of being finished lol....all's left to do is clamp/cable tie the rear disc brake hose to the frame and it's all set for the 1st maiden voyage... I mean ride

all finished today, and been out for it's first ride...very plush if need be, or I can dial my shocks for a tighter ride on da pavement or fire roads

approx. 7 inches of travel up front if needed, and 4.5 to 5 inches in the back

Sorry. I still do not have a Proflex, but I'm buying a Proflex 856.'ll Realize a dream, here in Brazil is very rare to find a company and soon she will do for my Amplifier of the Mongoose. Sorry for my bad english, I do not speak English and need to go to Google. 'm From MTB rider since 1989 and have always loved the Proflex soon be posting my new toy here.

my 1999 4000 RS. I Bought it new and it has less than 1000 miles on it. It sat for several years without use, but I now ride it a couple times a week. Had the chance to sell it, but just couldn't let it go. Upgraded to xt v-brakes, and better rims with nuke proof hubs, and besides that it's stock.

Hi,

I'm working in my 550 to make it a frankenbike-monstercross for long rides (>100 km)

Not finished at the time. Not period correct, the forks are from 1993 and the wheels (you saw it in my RF-1) are from 1995. The bars and brake levers are modern too.
Cable guides will be white, as the bar tape will be white too, but I'm not 100% sure. The brakes will be Suntour pedersen in the front too.
I suppose I'll start riding on it next week end.

Hope you like. If you don't I'll understand. I have a flat bar, some thumbies and ritchey levers if I regret from drop bars.

I like that a lot! I've been toying with a similar idea with my 857, a kind of full sus cyclo cross bike. I recon that will a lot of fun!

Since the damage done to the site pretty much toasted everything from September, here's an image posted and lost that should or could fit with this thread:

It's my 857, but it's seen some modifications over the years. Front fork is a Marzocchi Bomber Z-1, which was quite the advance back in the day with huge travel. Rear end is Noleen NR-4. Race Face crankset and bar, Profile BOA stem, NRG seat and pedals etc. Tires were even purpose-selected by the original owner for front/rear performance (although not sure how big a deal it actually was!).

Frame is clear coat on the aluminum after paint stripped off. The original owner (a friend) built it this way from new condition as a downhill racer... before downhill bikes really existed. He rode the motocross circuit before a workplace accident that impacted his hearing and balance, so he came at the modifications from the perspective of a motocross rider I daresay!

Still rides super-smooth, just wish the rear cassette was a little more suitable for going UPhill!!!

This isn't mine, but spotted it outside a general store at a place called Stovepipe Wells in Death Valley, CA

The bike was well, very well ridden had a NR2 and a smart-fork(?). The owner said it was the most reliable bike he ever had (gasp) His riding buddy was on a nice Surly. Off they went in 100 degree heat, no brain buckets, no water....

Pretty sure this bike has been around the block.
