A few days ago.

Very little progress made since then, it has now the XT fd-m739 front derailleur and the seatpost has been shortened so it fits now (I only had to chop the protruding, slanted front of the post).

Soon going in are the new pedals, wheels (XT M-737 + Mavic 238, both eBay NOS bargains) and tires (the ones in the pictures are new but while I got tired of the red side pretty quickly, I was not happy when I realized that I ordered the wire version of the tire instead of the folding one and at the time could not find the folding+red side anywhere)

Unfortunately the rear shock leaks oil badly, and I can't seem to find a replacement for it and NoleenJ6 doesn't seem to answer my e-mails. I am thinking about building an adapter that will allow me to install any rear shock there, the mounting brackets are barely fitting anything else than the stock shock. I know that there are fitting replacements (RP23, float, swinger etc.) but i could not find any available at a price i want to pay. I may give a shot at the stock shock from the Jumpy Monkey frame i purchased, it may not as bad as I initially though, at least it's not leaking oil. I start thinking I am too chubby for these bikes at 220lbs...

I have a RP23 and a Float R on two of mine and they were cheap enough on eBay. I payed around £30 each for them and they fit with no modification to the frame or swingarm. eBay probably is your best bet. Don't give up you're nearly there!

RP23 used aren't cheaper than $150-$175 on eBay these days. I've spent less on a new Revox that doesn't fit as well as a Monarch which doesn't fit either...

As it sits now she sports a NR2 with a 650lbs coil (I am about 220 so it's a little bit of an overkill but that is what it came with) from the spare Bumpy Monkey frame in the rear and the rebuilt NR2 from the carbon crosslink I bought on eBay is going on the front (spring rate unknown). At least I can ride it like that without oil spraying everywhere while I try to a) rebuild the NR4 or b) get it rebuilt if NoleenJ6 gets back to me. Ironically the only rebuild kit I've found is sold by nonetheless than NoleenJ6!

I have had more goodies coming in to build the Bumpy Monkey frame as well, it's going to be a XT-M785 2x10 with disc brakes, not sure what to do with the front but the rear came with the stock disk bracket so that is covered.

I'll post pictures of the progress (little) as soon as I have a chance.

Finally managed a short ride in the park with the bike all bottoned up...bobbing a little bit but otherwise it runs like a dream, the complete XT drivetrain is really smooth, I am not really used to it! It is going to be fun! Now I need to accessorize, bottle cage, rear lighting and helmet all need to be sourced.

I stumbled across this site via retrobikes and thought I'd introduce my Proflex.

I have a 857 which is currently going through a much needed makeover. I bought the bike approx. 12 months ago as I always dreamed of owning one as a kid.

Little uodate on the 4000 as it sits in its final configuration (for now)...

...and where the Bumpy Monkey is going in terms of paint scheme (it's no longer a frame, I'll post pics as soon as available). Luckily the frame came with the origianl bracket, so I was able to go with disc brakes on this build. I had been entertaining the idea of front disc brake on a crosslink fork this one, but for now it will be sporting a more humble Marzocchi AM2 130. Rear shock is a Fox RP2 remote that I was able to source on eBay new for a fair price.

Hello all...
It is time to give some rest to my old 856. It has been well used in the portuguese trails.
But 20years are always 20 so I have found one of the possible substitute for her .
It is a Scott spark 950 and this bike just proof what an extraordinary bike is the proflex 856. I will not put it on a shelf, instead it will be ready for more adventures.
Here are some photos of them.
I suppose that there aren't many factory test like my 856.
Have nice rides.
