2nd Impression of Stratos Helix on K2 5000

just got back from my second ride on my new Stratos Helix. The first ride was an easy course. Today's was much more challenging and is my favorite trail. It is still not as plush as I had hoped. but I didn't care as much, because I seemed to be a much better rider today on this advanced trail. I seemed more in control. more sure footed. more predictable. I don't think it is because it is a stiffer set up. I think it might be because I now have good rebound and damping... not that I have adjusted it.... but the Smart shock didn't have any damping I don't think.

I suppose I can still improve the plushness (by decreasing air pressure, or going with lighter spring)... and still hold onto this much improved control and surefootedness???

I personally like a soft spring on my rear shock. I have an NR-2 and a 450 lb spring. I weigh 180 lbs. The sag is approx 30%, but I just do alot of single track riding....no big jumping.
I keep the rebound damping set at near max. I like the set up. I would have bought a new shock this season, but opted for a new road bike instead. If I were you, I'd try the softer spring. You may find that you like it alot and get more usable travel out of your rear suspension. Good luck.

Yo chainsaw, your spring is WAY too heavy IMHO. I was 215 when I rode the Stratos and I only had a #500 spring. It was plush without being too squishy and the air pressure never let it botrtom harshly. I would shoot for a lighter spring, maybe Stratos will let you swap it at no cost. My bike was built for more aggressive trailriding, but my riding leaned more toward XC and the rear was nice.
