Just serviced a 97 C Xlink, steerer tube stiff...

I took apart my Carbon Crossling and removed the steerer tube from the unit and replaced the orings/bushings. I did not recall how smooth or stiff they same pivot was before I took it off but damn its not easy to move. I did not monkey it down but just snugged it up. Do these require a break in period? I took apart the link again and noticed the new bushings/orings were squished a bit. I believe I put them in correctly.

you took the steerer tube off the x~link ??? or just took the fork offa the bike ???

check to see if you forgot to put a spacer ring in with your headset bearings (what kinda headset?)otherwise it will bind. the headset that's on with my xlink is an aheadset and has some kinda spacer ring that fits with the bearngs on the bottom (i'm pretty sure). sorry i'm not that technical

it should be smooth unless something is binding

Let me clarify:

I took the fork off of the bike. The steerer tube can and was taken off of the Lower Link Assembly. From here I replaced the spacer washers and reassembled this portion of the shock. The steerer tube does not move freely on the lower link assembly. I did check the exploded view of the crosslink and it appears that the spacer washers that I replaced are backwards. Guess I am going to do it over again.

do you mean the lower pivot axle(#8),the wrist pin:(#9) or the steerer tube/lower link pivots....whatever i have found that it is quite easy to get the seals off centre between the steerer and the lower link.Its quite a tight to get those new seals in there .we need the equivalent of the QR axle on the swnigarm crimped up to just spread the link slightly.The other trick is to cycle the fork through its travel a few times b4 tightening every thing up,it sorta self aligns evry thing.Have you got those little washers (#4) on the end of the pivot axle against the legs????
ps the numbers refer to the 98 crosslink manual exploded view but everything is called the same on the 97 girvins and vectors too isnt it.
