Razorback 2001 owners -- rear brake line length?
« on: February 10, 2004, 11:20:16 pm »
I am going to get Shimano XT755 disc brakes.

These brakes come with stainless steel braided hoses that can't be trimmed.

I am not sure what rear hose length to pick for the rear brake.

My frame is Razorback 2001, size M.

Could anyone please help me out with that?

TIA!

Thanks Epac!

The measurement is in centimetres. It's either 150cm (59.055inches) or 160cm (62.992inches). What should I pick?

I live in Russia, and the shop I'll be ordering from is in the U.S. Returns are cost prohibitive for me, and it would be a shame to get a line that is 0.78 inch short. :)

P.S. I registered in the forum. :))

Personally I'd go for the longer one at 160cm,you can always lose the extra length in the hose routing,if its to short then your stuck and even if you can get it to reach what happens when you turn the bars, play safe and get the longer one.Simon [smiley=nod.gif]

I'm a genius. What would be the front brake hose length? Forgot that I don’t have that one either.

Here’s the deal: older style XT braided hoses are around $12 for two, while new cuttable BH61 hoses will cost approx. $45.

The lengths for braided hoses are limited. I can get 140 (55.1’), 150 (59’) and 170 (66.9’) for rear and 60(23.6’), 80(31.5’), and 100(39.4’) for front.

So the choice is, 59’ or 66.9’ for the rear and 31.5’ ir 39.4’ for front.

Are these any close?

If you can run to it you could always buy some goodridge hoses for those brakes, you can then cut to the required length and have hoses that are guaranteed for life ???
looking at the lengths you've mentioned,59"for the rear is 1" to short by Epac's measurements,
as for the front what fork are you running ???
also what width bars are you using, riser's,stack height etc, some of this may have to be taken into consideration.Simon

Simon, my front Shimano XT brake (rotor, lever, and caliper) cost me $65 and  it's hard for me to think of hydro lines that would cost equally.

I decided to go for 80cm (31.5") on the front and get a cuttable line for the rear brake.

By the way, if anyone is interested, Pricepoint still has XT disc brakes for $65 (front only). Here's a link:
