I got back into biking a year ago, I am finally a carbon crosslink owner.  I remember when the first girvins came out and the idea rocked me - shame it took them so long to get it working, and when they did the gave up on it.  Anyhow, I'm not exactly sure which forks I now own and have a couple of questions.

The legs are carbon, with yellow mounts either end.  The shock is a Noleen, but does'nt tell me which.  The coil preload is adjustable, and at the bottom there seems to be another adjustment (which seems to have no noticable affect on the forks performance) with a locking ring.  Hopefully someone can tell me what the are, and how old they are.

Most importantly - I started to fit the forks using your useful manual - thanks - its nice when the internet is actually useful.  Its the critical distance that is the problem.  If I follow this, I am left with a mear 10mm of steerer above the top clamp.  No room for a stem.  I guess a previous owner has disregarded this and hacked off the steerer, or a quill stem has been used.  By reducing the critical measurement such that it fits together, the fork still operates.  From analysis, I think changing this slightly changes the J-path, but does not jam or stress the linkages.  I am hoping there are some answers out there.....am I alright as is, do I need a new steerer, is the use of a quill stem possible - are the diameters correct, can the steerer be extended.

other qus, which service kit do I need and where can I get one.  And what is the dealeio on shocks, which are best for what.

Thanks
Nic

could be a circa '97-99 x link with an nr-2 shock. what bike is/was the fork mounted on??? and what size is the frame??? we can tell if you give that info.

have you tested the shock to see if it operates with the rebound set on and set off?(dial at the bottom)it might be low on nitrogen.

you should be able to tell a difference more on the trail than by pushing on the fork. it's not very plush anyway. i have mine set sorta in the middle

the critical measurements are different for the xlinks . They are 153mm and 163mm, depending on what bike or year it came from the long legged models were 190 and 200 CM.

the steerer tubes came precut and I don't think anybody would cut one down, the ULM wouldn't fit. Theres about 10mm after on top of the ULM but I can't remember. My gallery has a pic of it in there some where....my link will be below my post here.

RK004 FOR SEAL KIT
RK006 FOR BEARING KIT

the Nollen shock is really best for the xlink, some have put on a Risse Genisis, but the Nollen and X~link go well together.

I know you have more ?'s hopefully some got answered.

if the fork is labelled as a girvin it will use the smaller c.m and the nollen crosslink  will use the larger c.m that carbon posted. There will ussually be a stack of spacers between the headset and the lkm to set the c.m.You should use carbon spacers too ;).If you have a large (bout 12mm wide knurled ring at the bottom ofthe shock it is a nr2.I would expect a carbon to come with athe crosslink with the nr2.

if the fork has been de stickered i can provide info on a 97 girvin crosslink which will be the smaller cm and identical to the crosslinks on the 98 1000,2000,3000
.Do you know what bike the forks came off.?
