Headset in Evo

Has anyone had any problems installing a headset in an Evo frame.  My nephew has a black and white evo frame and he is a little concerned as the inside of the bottom of the head tube is not as nicely finished as the top.  Any experience...good or bad  Thanks

I haven't had any problems, but any bike shop should be able to "face" the head tube for you. That would make sure that the ends are perfectly flat (i.e. parallel to each other and perpendicular to the headtube).

"Not as nicely finished" is a little vague, but if you mean that it's rough on the inside, a little (and I mean VERY little) light sanding should take care of the problem. Remember, headsets are not supposed to go in and out easily. That's why they have those fancy tools for installing and removing them! Unless it's really rough, the only problem he's likely to encounter is a tight squeeze getting it in. Once it's in, it should be fine.

Headset press fit is a ~4 thousandths which is a pretty tight push.  Let me clarify my question.  Has anyone installed a headset in an Evo and then had any problems with the headset after.  

This might be a good string as well has anyone every had a headset problem after installing it?  I never have and I have installed many.

I'm still waiting to see if my single speed frame will have problems. I haven't been able to ride it since I still don't have a bottom bracket, but soon. I knew there might be a problem when I pulled the top headset cup out with my fingers while trying to remove just the bearings.  
There doesn't seem to be any play in it now that it's installed, but I have yet to ride it to find out. Of course, I have a feeling that there's enough play in the fork itself that I won't notice it anyway! (The fork is likely going to be replaced at the LBS soon after the bike is  completed.

Oh, and by the way, my 5000's headtube was not smooth when I got it, and Outdoors Unlimited didn't face it or really prep it in any way (for that matter, they installed a headset on my old hardtail without a DROP of grease. Should have waited for Joe). Never had a bit of trouble with the headset other than a brief episode of looseness which was corrected quickly and only once. I assume it just wasn't fully tightened in the first place, and had to "settle in."

I have removed and reinstalled my headset on my F'n Monkey many times and never had any problems. FYI, I use FSA PIG headsets, not that it should matter.

If you're swapping forks it DOES matter. The FSA headsets have a "split" crown race, which is MUCH easier to remove and install than one that is a solid ring. I'm still debating whether I should "steal" the FSA headset from my wife's 5000 and swap it with my cheapo...

I think my nephew has a bit more faith in me.  The headset went in today with out a problem.  Used my handy dandy homemade headset tool.  Like many of you have I am sure.  Threaded stock with large washers and nuts.

Ah yes used a similar system many times,never had a problem,resently started using a suitable size sockets inverted with a large washer on top,found it gives a slightly straighter initial push as the shank sits snuggly down inside the cup boss,Simon.

I managed to mess up a cane creek hs after about 5 mths, I am still not sure how but it seems that i screwed up the bearings. Replaced with another cane creek [I like the lizard] and no problems since.

           I done many headsets Raleigh M60,K2 ATTACK 3.0,PROFLEX/K2 2000,ACCESS,IRONHOUSE Jounney,GT Timberline,Schwinn Probe,but the hardest was just this week in a PROFLEX 856 due to the size of the upper and lower head cups. Tight fit.
