Hello! I should first tell how this all started. I have a Cannondale with a Girvin fork, and I am in the process of stripping the paint off the frame and having a clear coated brushed alum frame. I posted a pic of my progress, and someone mentioned that I needed to buy their carbon fiber fork for it. Well, the cf fork has a 1.5" steerer tube, and mine is a 1". So he mentioned I need to find a new frame, and wouldn't you know it, there was one on ebay in my size, and for a good price. So I bought the frame and his fork, and now I have a new project!

This brings me to the "help" part. I want to build this up with new, or fairly new parts, a "modern build", but finding the right parts that fit has left me scratching my head. The last bike I built was a On One Scandal 29er , and I basically bought the frame and a Motobecane for a donor bike. This 957 I am piecing together.

Currently, I am trying to figure out what crankset/bottom bracket to use. I see a lot of 113mm, but I need a 115mm?

Hi there! Just downloaded this original build spec from bikepedia.
Originally it had a 115mm bottom bracket fitted with kooka cranks,
But as for a newer crank I'm unsure which way to correctly guide you
So hopefully someone will chime in with more up to date info...

Welcome! I've just done a similar thing and built up my OZ as a modern build. The OZ/4500 takes the same size BB as the 957. I used a Shimano XT770 Hollow Tech 2 crank. It comes with spacers for different width fitments.

That will certainly fit and the hollow tech bb is so easy to fit, although you need a few specific tools. That rear cassette at 11/36 is quite big. I had to change mine on the OZ from a 11/34 to a 11/32 as the chain was hitting the swing arm. I think it's due to me fitting a longer stroke rear shock but it might be worth mocking up the chain line on yours before you order, incase you run into clearance problems.  Just judge where the chain would be on a 11/36 an see if it hits the swing arm.

Ha ha then it's a good job I've got the original linkage fork aswell. They're called Crosslinks by the way.

I laughed for two reasons.
One is that I have been guilty of criticising Proflexs in the past for not having vector/Crosslinks, so it's seems only fair that my bike should be criticised now.
Two because he has totally missed the point of this thread and why I built my bike. The thread is about building up a 957 with modern bits as was the reason behind my OZ.
I build bikes to ride and not just look at, so having the luxury of four other Proflexs with vector/crosslink, I think this one will pass.  ;)

I am now only waiting on XTR v-brakes and XT levers, and I will have everything to complete the bike, except maybe cables/housing. I was trying to decide on a tire, and came across Velociraptors, perfect! I still run Dart/Smokes on my Cdale.
After a good polishing of the frame, I can start assembling.

Wow, I used to love Panaracer Dart and Smoke tyres back in the day, I havn't seen them available in ages and like you I have been running WTB Velociraptors as front and back specific tyres on several bikes, but I have been preferring Panaracer Fire XC's and as always I love my Panaracer Mach SK's for fast dry conditons.
As I also have Panasonic Cameras, TV's, DVD's and even a vacuum cleaner I am obviously a bit of a Panasonic tart.

Sounds like you've got it all sorted. I'm running Velocerapters on my 4000 as winter tyres. I like the way they perform in mud but I find them quite heavy. The front never seems to wear out either! I think you could probably get through five rears to one front!
