5500 Decals - ex Proflex/K2 employee content
« on: July 07, 2014, 01:28:44 pm »
Has anyone got a set of K2/PROFLEX 5500 decals they could sell, photo or copy for me? I want a set for my other carbon frame, which is a 5500. The 5500 is also my favourite design. I bid on the pile of K2/Proflex frame stickers on eBay last week but lost out by $1. There was one 5500 decal in that lot which I could have used as a pattern to get more made. Did anyone on here win them?

You could try contacting the seller to see if he would hook you up with the buyer info.

I'm the seller from the auction - the Test Ride decals in that lot could possibly be the last new unused ones on earth.  The Test Ride decals were for dealer demo bikes, as many of you are most likely aware.

The company I worked at was a subcontractor for Proflex (and later K2 when they bought the bike line).  We sourced finished frames, were getting massive shipments direct from Shimano, did full assembly and final packaging, and had one of the best wheel building facilities money could buy (at that time).   It was a very interesting place to be.

Somewhere a friend of mine has production photos of countless full carbon 4500's and 5500's in various states of assembly.  Someday i'll get those pics and scan and post them.

Hey Dave thanks for joining and giving us a bit of your time.
To everyone, I contacted Dave about the decals he had for sale and got chatting about his time with Proflex. I asked him to join the forum to tell us a little history and hopefully see those pictures of past bikes his company built including some of the specials for themselves.

Quote: "That's awesome! The company I worked for had contract building Proflex bikes before and after K2 purchase. On our company group rides, we had many people together with the Girvin Carbon forks in attendance; they were very popular and we put those forks on many bikes besides Proflex (our personal bikes). I still have original magazine reviews of bikes we built in the 90's..... It was a great time."

It's always fascinating to talk to an ex Proflex worker. Thanks again Dave.

I know most tempting but its the thought of it having to travel all that way and getting damaged and being stung by our customs and Royal mail

Looking quickly through some of my archives I have magazine tests on a couple models we built for K2/Proflex

Mountain Bike Action (usa publication)
February 1998 ProFlex 4000
June 1998 Noleen CrossLink C (mini review on fork)
July 1998 "K-2's Secret Super Lights" (Sub 23 lb racers for '99 article)
August 1998 ProFlex5500
April 1999 K-2 Razorback

If people want these scanned and emailed I can....

My friend with production photos from that era lives 5 hours away from me so I have no idea when I'll have access to those.

If anyone in this thread is the 2nd person that contacted me on eBay about a small batch, please message me here and we can connect to get the decals to you.

Magazine scans are coming still, work is good now but leaves little time to get the scans done.  But they are coming....
