Christmas came early
« on: December 09, 2013, 02:39:19 pm »
Look what I've bought. As I'm having no luck finding a 957 in large, I thought I'd get this instead. This is why I was asking about frame numbers earlier. It's in excellent condition, except for the elastomers which have melted. ::) I've cleaned off the yellow goo already and am sorting through my stash of parts to see what it shall be built up with. The guy I bought it off even delivered it to me for free! Ho ho ho!

Cool. As you can see it still has its original ODS (?)shocks so an upgrade would be great. What have you got surplus to your requirements?

Hmm don't know but guess so, haven't taken the shock off. The strut differs from the 856 in that the top sides are hollowed out. It looks original.

That does have the flat non-cone strut bridge.

In the new year I'll finish off the OZx I started building and then put some bits on this. I've got Xtr front and rear mechs, xt v's or hs33, gold tech hubs and a few other bit i can swop around so it should be interesting. They recon these bikes were just over 23lb out the factory so ill aim for 23-24lb. A challenge...

Wait a minute!!  Is that a dent or a wear divot on the 955 swing arm foundation on the drive side of the frame?

Yeh I noticed that too. It looked factory at first but when I compared it to my 856 I guessed it wasn't. It looks like a cable rub mark, Must be from the deralier? How?  It's not that deep and doesn't bother me. If it ever cracks I'll just get it welded.

Chris

Buying it size unknown and knowing your circumstances was exactly the gamble I was playing! <GRIN>

compared to the x56, it seems to be very difficult (impossible?) to discriminate between a Medium and a Large x57 by sight alone, akin to the Oz Med/Large, as a large just seems to be about a 1" longer overall.

Very happy with the 957 and just need to spend a few hours building it up for 'er indoors.
