Noleen NR1 leaking oil

My Noleen NR1 on my Crosslink is leaking clear oil. A lot, like dripping down the shock onto the tire.
This fork has not been used for a long time, like 5 years and has been stored down at sea level. I just brought it up to Tahoe and I noticed a little oil leaking on the shock. I put it on my hardtail, went on a ride and saw the NR1 dripping oil onto the tire.
Could the leak be due to pressure change and it will even out or should I stop using right away and send into Noleen for a rebuild?
I am guessing I need to send in, but don't know much about these shocks.
Thanks

It's more likely that the seals in the shock have just gone hard. The seals don't last for ever and mine started leaking after 8-10 years. A rebuild will sort it no problem.
Your Trek looks really good with the Crosslinks on it.

If it's leaking oil, nothing except a rebuild will fix it. The oil is pressurized by a canister of compressed nitrogen (its job is to take up slack when the oil level drops, to prevent foaming), and if the seals are leaking, the oil will continue to be expelled until there is none left.

It's only going to get worse.
I would rebuild it. I would also ask for it to be filled with light viscosity fluid for a fast compression and rebound. But that is me. Last time I had one rebuilt I told them my 10 year old daughter would be riding the bike. The improvement was astounding.

What does Noleen charge for a basic rebuild of an 857's NR1?
Logged
857-- Interest is shocks and shock adapters for front and rear; rebuilding Noleens by them, others or self
