took the sliders off the stantion tubes - remove the upper seals, grab a coat hanger to hold the thing and go at it. use standard painting techniques of prepping the surface etc.
if you do remove the lowers, i have some rebuilding info for ya to keep the stiction down, judy butter liberally under the seals and all around the foam sponge, also take a long thin stick so as not to mar the bushings and dab in some butter between the internal bushings on both legs - there's lots of room in there.
i did that a ways back and that thing is smooth as silk ever since.
