free play suggestion
« on: February 27, 2012, 02:11:48 pm »
just a suggestion to anyone out there with an annoying small amount of freeplay in the rear of there k2 full suspension frame. my 1999 1000 with the nr1 and the nr2 rear shock had a very slight amount of play when i would pick the back of the bike off the ground. i located that play to the bolts that pass through the frame and shock mounts, oddly enough the chicken fast food place called KFC has soda fountain straws that are the exact right diameter to snuggly fit over the bolt and snuggly through the shock and eliminate that play. i cut a peice just long enough to leave the end of the threads and the same amount on the shoulder portion of the bolt so only the shock adapters were covering the straw. i reasembled everything and that eliminated the play. now the back of the bike feels solid and quiet. i didnt matter how tight the bolts were, the play was between the bolt and shock collars. easy fix. just a thought

Thanks David,

I'd noticed that at a time past on one of my Proflexes in the same spot, any movement could be a precurser to wear-
Didn't think of using a straw, very inventive.

And I'd thought my use of umbrella cover and old argyle socks on my coil over 5th Element was clever.
