You need to post a link to a specific photograph, not the whole album.

Looks like a 96 or 97 model, to me. If it's a 97, it's 700-series or lower, because the 857 (800 series, 1997 year) used a different swingarm design.

I'd guess at an 855 or 856 going by the frame colour, and the shocks.

My guess is '56 since the right side swingarm pivot clamp is beveled but maybe early '56 since there is no gusset under the downtube.  Same front wheel as '55 though.  Pretty sure the ODS didn't come on the '55 since our team rider had a 955 and it it was still squishies for suspension.  Does appear to be upgraded or a higher trim level with the xt front mech too.

just another opportunity to be wrong eh?

Good eye. I do see there is a gusset on top of the  swingarm joint just behind the drive side clamp. That would tell me early 856, but not 855.

Hmmm, I see.

Seen some swingarms that cracked there.

I'd say it's an 856.

What's the serial number, maybe that way people can work out if it's newer or older than theirs with a known history?

Maybe leave off the last few digits for security.............?

I worked out some of the logic of the carbon frame bike serial numbers, but no clues on the Aly frame bikes so far.
I'm guessing the first 3 digits are the model number?
my 1997 XP-X is a UK late model 856:
H8D031xxx
and I have a repainted 855 or 856 frame, no head tube gusset, but the swing arm is strengthened.
H5D047xxx

incidentally,
my 857 is H7A018xxx
my 4000se is H8J008xxx

No guarantees on what order they used the frames in though!

Isn't it nice how they weld right over the top of half the serial number?
