Did a ride with the kid today. Cloudy and even raining this morning so we decided to give Point Magu a shot.

Get to the trail head and was so nice. 70 degrees and sun trying to break. So after descending into Sycamore Cyn, we start up the mountains to the ridges. Then the sun pops out, temps increase, and the humidity is SOLID!

At the top of the ridge I am dead, so I start fishing for PowerGels. Kid takes a shot of the old man.


So within five minutes of each other we both run out of H2O. So we decide to descend to the beach. It was freexing there. We water up and head back up to the trailhead. By the time we get halfway, the temps rose some 20 degrees which was like 90 degrees and virtually swimming thru the humidity. I sweated all over my shinny bike. It aint shinny no more.

We get back to the car and figure we did some 30 dirt offroad miles. I dranks so much H2O I have a headache. My knees feel like the mob got to them. So funny we both looked at each other and at the same time said "My ass is killing me!".

But it was fun riding with the kid for a change. And he felt sorry for me and bought me lunch!

  ..... just for a change, I took my XP8 for an outing on Sunday, just local loop, doing a few descents to fine tune the Z1 bombers and rear Fox shock.  (and yes, the adapter is surviving very well).

when I bought the bike, I thought the Z1s were the bizz .... but having ridden on more modern forks, Fox and RockShox, they do seem quite poor in comparison, guess that is 13 years of development for ya.

Any more than 20 degrees C (70F???) and I'm suffering - I'm a cold weather person

Yes, it is a Cannondale.

The humidiity is what killed me.

Where I live the temperature varies by 80 degrees Fahrenheit between summer and winter. I have no sympathy.

Must be an old Cannondale; it doesn't look like any of their newer models.

I went out for a ride with two friends of mine a week or so ago...I was third in our line of riders, and missed a hop over a log laying diagonally across the trail (and right at a puddle). The branch swept the front wheel out from under me and I fell with the full force impacting my left butt cheek :-( 2 days later, the 10" diameter dark purple bruise appears and just went away today. The joys of getting old :-)

Terry, don't worry...this wasn't on the 956 :-)

Oh yes, but I do try to baby the bike a but...it's usually the one I use to pull my daughter's trail-a-bike. I do need to get it on the trails more. Right now I'm looking for a nice set of 28h hubs to go with the Zipp 515 rims I have fir the bike. :-)

The weather here in the central valley (Fresno, CA.) is great this time of year . It never gets below a chilly 95 deg. Warm enough to put the winter wear away. LMAO For real, its so freakin hot you break a sweat just thinking about how hot it is!!!! I dig a good night ride sometimes (way cooler) when I get the urge for ride.

Night riding trails is my absolute favorite.  Never mind the legality since the 700 acre park next to me has some very nice trails..  Thanks to a freaking idiot arsonist and then an attack on a woman runner in daylight on a paved road, they have started patrolling so that is history.  Now it is at least a 40 minute drive to the nearest trails and hope the truck is still there after riding.

for that price you could get a set every winter, but mine has seen 2 winters already and still going strong.

 The best set up I had for the night missions was a set up I fabed myself. I use an old school round housing. It was a good 3 inch dia. and modified it and used a mikita 9.6 bulb. Then used a wide mouth water bottle and a battery that was no good. Shot it full of expanding foam. BAM battery holder. The amount of light it put out was great. Made for a fun night run.
