Click here
for how to make a rear disc brake adapter.
No welding involved and no fancy tools other than a droill press. I used a bearing which required the use of a lather in order to reduce friction but a simple hole and thin teflon washer could be used.

there is a whole bunch of other designs out there - most are using the axle as mounting point.... mine uses the 5 mm tapped hole that is already in the dropout ... time will tell if that is strong enough.

! have a '98 Proflex 5000 with the carbon swing arm. But the dropouts are aluminum/steel(?) Is there a an aftermarket bracket I can mount to fit disc brakes on to that?
I'm not mechanically inclined to create my own nor do I have the machinging tools to do so. Hence my search for an aftermarket one. Or is there someone on here that makes them for a reasonable price? Or is anyone parting one out that they'd like to sell?
I have a standard Rock Shox front fork on there so I was able to mount a front disc. But I'd like to add a rear disc as well.
Thanks!

there is an adapter by [http://2bgoods.com/Brake-Therapy-Disc-Brake-Conversion-Kit-For-26-MTB-135mm-1001.htm ] that will work for it... only others, one similar to this in ebay, {
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360367377758&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
} or one custom done if you know someone.... K2 used to have one, and so did rapid descent, but neither are made or available anymore...I could've used one for my 5000 or 4500 frames also....I'm going the Brake Therapy adapter route instead...sux at $150 a pop

I had one of the K2 OEM adapters on my 4000. It fit very well, using the oval hole in the dropout along with the 2 machined threaded holes in the dropout. This adapter is very nicely machined and sturdy and bolts right on with no modifications. My 4000 had an aluminum swing arm, so if the carbon swing arm uses the same shape dropout with the oval hole in it, it should work on it. It does not used the axle to hold it on. I'm considering selling it since I have sold the 4000 and no longer need it.
