Which is what I did by turning out the center of the upper hat for the ODS/elastomer setup and replacing the elastomer with a coil spring. That allows a greater choice of springs since the COR spring is a larger diameter to clear the spring cup from RDS. I have thought about machining some COR type hats as well when I run out of the dark anodized Proflex ones. Coil spring manufacturers are all over the place, just a matter of looking at their inventory and finding your spring. ID, OD, uncompressed length, flattened ends, wire diameter, metallurgy and number of coils as well as your desired spring rate. I have been checking rates by using a small shipping scale (bath size) on the deck of my drill press and then setting the depth gauge on the quill to zero on contact with the spring and then reading the scale @ 1". The spring rates printed on some of the springs isn't even close! A 25# difference isn't too bad but there are some I have tested that were close to 100# off.One and a half times body weight for the rear spring and body weight for the front spring works for me on the 855/856 frames and forks.
Yes the Noleen springs are longer (I think) so I'll see about wandering out to the shop tomorrow and measuring. I have several different manufacturers springs on my Pfx's in different configurations. I'll post info then.
i will dig through my spare parts box i think i have a couple noleens in there.pausenb2 300 o/all 95mm od 45mm id35mm
If you can contact Callum of ex RDS, when he shut up shop he had a box of COR end caps left over but no springs. He was trying to sell the whole box if someone else wanted to find their own spring suppier. He would probably still sell the caps but contacting him will be the challenge. Chris
