Another new member with 857 expert - different question!
« on: September 25, 2010, 12:46:30 am »
Upgrading my drive train.  What front derailleurs will fit my 857 expert series (carbon swing arm)?

Top/Bottom swing, Top/Bottom Pull, SRAM/Shimano, etc?  Thanks!

thanks for the replies!  i've been scouring ebay for a front derailleur to fit the bill -- with little luck.

perhaps it's because i'm looking for an 8-speed FD 31.8mm?  anyone know if this derailleur exists?  if so, what model number?

Even better, anyone know the model for the XT front derailleur that came stock on the 857???

Thanks!

Naw- mech for x57 frame needs to have top swing and low clamp so that it fits under the swingarm- the x55/x56 can use a regular mech becuase the swinagrm is pivoted behind the bottom bracket.
This type:

I think the mech on the 857 was probably XT M739 series- make sure to check that it's dual or bottom pull as well.
Worth having a look for XT or XTR- I won an XTR M960 a few months ago that was misdescribed as 34.9........was 31.9, would have suited an 857 to a tee- was only £12 or so!!

okay -- so i bought a new X7 rear derailleur for my 857, but have a problem with the cable routing.

i routed the rear derailleur through the carbon swingarm no problem.  the problem is that with the "Direct Cable Routing" on the X7 rear derailleur, i almost need a 90 degree turn to make it to the rear derailleur.  has anyone else had this problem or am i missing something REALLY obvious????

thanks in advance.
