replacement elastomers

Bear with me... I'm new to all this!!
I wanted a proflex since I was 17... funny how I buy one at 33... 2 months after RDS closes down!!
So what are the tricks of the trade with regards to replacing the elastomers?
I've seen one chap using old innertubes and zipties...
I'm looking for a solution that is a little more... well, tidy!
Is there anyone out there that produces elastomers? (I see suspensionforkparts sell them for £30 per 'end'... are they any good?)
Is there an alternative? (car suspension bushes, etc?)
Is there a coil that miraculously fits? (Diamond back, etc)
I'm open to all and any ideas...
It's only a 656 (with vector2 forks), but it's MY 656. And I've waited 16 years for it!
Cheers
Martyn

Martyn, It's not just a 656. It's a Pro Flex 656. I just Built mine this year after riding my attack for ten yrs. And I love it. Plus theres always room to upgrade. I was on budget and modified a coil sping to fit the rear suspention. Keep an eye on ebay they pop up ever now and then.good luck.

I have a spare set of RDS elastomers for my 555- the rear setup on the 656 looks essentially the same- let me know if ye are interested, I'll get ye some pics and measuremts (height, diameter, inner bore diameter etc..........).

I put them up in the for sale thread for £15 posted in UK.............if ye are overseas or in US, I'd have to check postal prices to get a final figure, but I doubt it would be a whole lot more.
Cheers,
Dav
PS- just had a quick check- RDS sold them as "MCU656R - Hard rear elastomer kit for the Proflex 656, 755, 555 frames
Item Number MCU656R", so they'd do your bike fine.

you might try these - not great, but will get you up and running and you can't argue at the price.

Vectors look like this with them:

There you are Martyn I said they always know the answer to every thing on here, I hope to see you out and about at Bedgebury with us at some time, sorry I got the number wrong on your bike (dont tell them I cocked it up or the`ll get mean and make me whip myself with wet nettles again) It is a 656 as you said.
See you on the singletrack there sometime mate, Tel.
