New 957 owner
« on: May 24, 2010, 01:33:18 pm »
Hello all,

I recently started a rebuild of a 957 I bought from a friend for $150 :) I can across this board from a google search. I did give it a fresh paint job... going with a star wars theme cuz I'm a nerd. Going to make decals. new wheels/tires, headset, cranks. next up is brakes. What do you guys think so far?

Im doing decals as follows: Pro Flex in the famous Star Wars Title font, and for the model number Im doing TK-957 (TK-### being the codenames for imperial stormtroopers). The model number will be in the star wars "Basic" font, aka the alien looking script on most of the display monitors on the ships and stuff. The color scheme will be that of an imperial sandtrooper as seen here.

I have a yellow accented Bontrager seat to simulate the shoulderpad :)

Next to the Ringle classic I reckon its the most awesome cage going, weighs practically nothing and looks trick IMHO, whats not to like!  Hows your bike coming along, i need just a cassette, chain and rear mech and shes ready to roll, picked up some M970 shifter the other day, superb bit of kit probably the nicest shifter Shimano has ever done, no poncey indicator windows, nice weighted feel to the shift as well.

I see, should look excellent when the decals go on, I always intended to respray my old bike matt grey and have "NC-1701" decals on it ala Star Trek... I got as far as painting it in grey primer.... :'(

keep the pics coming.

Hi,

Slowly ...  ;D

I am only short of a headset (probably king) and wheels (looking for second hand modern crossmax's) and then its just down to powder, ano and building  :)

Looking forward to getting it finished as it will only be my second MTB ever owned and I have never had suspension etc. It should be a good bike with full 970 and a few carbon goodies  :)

The latest updates are over on retrobike : http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=71009

WD  :)

How do you like those Panaracer FireXCPro tires? I'm really partial to Michelin tires, but I always liked the way Panaracers looked too.

The Panaracers are amazing. I have nothing but good things to say about them.

Good stuff, just got an M770 rear mech in the post today, just chain and cassette left to get. I can't wait to ride it!
