Proflex 957 owner checking in

Followed a link from retrorides forum

Am building up my Proflex 957 after I took it to bits a couple of years ago.  The frame was going well rank, so stripped it down, and have been spending the past couple of days primering and painting the frame and some parts.  Am going for a definite "black" theme, finishing off the paintwork with a VW metallic black.  I am going to be building this up using original parts so have fresh XT gearing for it, and will be re-using the V brakes and other parts.

Thanks.  Forgot to add I am also in the UK - In SW England, so to have sunshine like in the pics (note shadows ) is an opportunity not to miss.

Hoping my 957 resto goes well.  Hasn't started well this morning with me dropping my freshly painted handlebar on the patio whilst applying clearcoat!  Luckily I think the stem will hide the damaged area. *phew

You painted the carbon. Why didn't you mask it?

Is there a part of the UK where sunshine isn't a rarity?

Carbon was rank - most of it was seriously scuffed and was looking well ugly.  I wouldn't have touched it had it been in good condition.

I am down in what is the "tropical" part of the UK - In the South West.

Have done lacquering and now has been flattened off and looking "bad" but of course this is before setting about it with my machine polisher.

You'll want to remove the paint from the inboard swingarm bearings before you reassemble. It'll just get sticky and tear up the seals if you don't.

Well, this bike is finally back together now.  Some painted areas did need a little scraping back to allow all parts to be refitted properly.  One of those things which didn't matter once all installed.   Just some minor tweaking needed but all ready to go now in my mind.

The pace forks have a lovely action but there is some play in the ones I am running (they are about as old as the bike....) so I get a horrid creaking noise when I brake heavily on the front wheel.  They will need refurbing, which I am not sure if economical or not as I love the forks, but don't want to splash out on a repair if megabucks.

Well, the bike attacked Dartmoor (google it for non UK people) last weekend as part of a charity challenge thing.  The bike was adorned with a mascot and then took on some of the rough trails around the moor, which is coped with fine.  Some fine work to do still though.  There is a creaking from the crank area/BB when peddling hard so I think something might need replacing there.  Gears also not 100% yet.

the creaking can be the seat post.....

Creak could also be in the drive side of the crank.  Chain ring bolts or swaged crank/chain ring assembly can make noise.
