My $20 656
« on: May 11, 2010, 10:36:01 pm »
I came across this Sun. on Craigs list. Picked it up Mon. at lunch. Needs a grip of work, but the frame and rear end is what I was after anyway. So close to having my Attack finished, and only have the componets for one ride. Whats a guy to do? I'll post some pics as it comes along

20 bucks is a steal. ;D

What to do? Keep it as a spare. Oddly enough, I think more bikes equals less cost. If one breaks, you won't be so desperate to throw cash at it, or buy a new bike, and fall into a deal like you did.

Oh, and Proflex rules!  8) 8)

No kidding, every time I think I have to buy a part.....  digging through the stash produces the part!  Great find.

Oh I have no thought of getting rid of one!!!! I'm now a multipal pro flex owner!!!! I'ts deciding to finish building my attack or build the 656. I have the componets for one bike. So I'm gona go with buildding the 656, and put "Ol Mule" in the barn till I get the parts to finish the build. He can use a rest. I did'ent own a car for 4 or 5 years after my divorce an that bike was my only transpo. He' got some miles on him.

I agree! ( or that's what I tell the Missus!) I buy spares when they're cheap, and use them when I need them, rather than running to the nearest most expensive shop when I'm desperate. Also, having spare bikes means that the fix doesn't have to be done to ride tonight (which I will be doing later! )

I know friends with plenty more expensive hobbies than Mountain Biking and PRO~FLEX collecting! e.g. Golf............<GRIN>

The hard stuff is finished!!!! I've got the frame shining like a brand new nickle. The rear end is on and dialed in, and the forks are on. Would anyone know where I could purchase a decal set becides the graphicshack in the UK. They have full sets for an 856 plus a few other proflex decals, but if anyone knows of another source that info would be great.

You could try member Gil_m on www.retrobike.co.uk - he does them well if you send him a photo (he may have images in stock already). He's a busy man though so don't expect a reply straight away. He will sort you though.

Gil did me a full set of decals for mine and charged me 30 quid. Almost OEM perfect!

I used his off the shelf 856 ones but he can do custom which take a bit longer and probably cost a bit more.

Other than that couldn't recommend him enough, great to deal with and a stellar gent!

Just wanted to give an update on my $20 656, IT'S FINISHED!!! Took it for a spin, but it was getting dark. A little fine tuning and a decals of course. This is the finished product. Please let me know what you think. Now I have to pillage the parts I need to complete my Attack build.

Hello Group, hav'ent posted anything in a while. Works finally picked up a little and I've been busy. Although I did find a little time to put the finishing touches on my $20 656. I've had the decals for a month or so. A quick once over with the  buffer, and change the color on a few parts. DONE!!! Now its time start looking for a winter project, another Proflex lol.
