differences in models / original prices in pounds UK

so ive got the 1997 beast coming today
i am replacing another one which got stolen (maybe an 857 - had no sickers on it)
we loved the old bike
ive only just realised on closer inspection of the photos you chaps have kndly hel;ped me to find that the rear suspension arm is longer on this on
(bracket in front of BB) - what difference does this make to the ride, i assume more travel?

any idea re original UK price on the 97 Beast - i can see the US $ price but know that its not just a case of converting to UKŁ

If your old bike had the swingarm pivot in back of the BB, it was a "World Cup Design" frameset. If it has the swingarm pivot in front of the BB, it is an "x57" frameset.

I can't say for sure that the x57 frames have more travel, as they used similar shocks, but the pivot has a more refined pedal input effect, as it is less higher than the BB.

Moving onto the "EVO" series framesets, the swingarm pivot was moved even closer to the BB.

In general, they all have therir benefits.

Comparing my 756 and 857, the swingarm pivots are at the same height above the cranks, so it must be the forward pivot on the Expert Series that makes the difference. That being said, I'm really just splitting hairs. The Expert Series is definitely the better design, though, as evidenced by the fact that Santa Cruz still uses the exact same pivot placement on their Superlight frame some 13 years later.

I do also, it suits my riding style better.
