I had heard of this Nuke Proof frame but never seen one.  I had no idea that they made a fork like the Girvin.  Could that be a Noleen peaking out of the head tube skirt er, would it be better to say dress!

Not certain I remember this correctly, but I believe the head-shock was Nuke Proof's own design and had very little or no damping to speak of.

It turns out I missed it by a mile, the front fork has a RockShox Coupe Deluxe coilover shock inside the headtube.

The Reactor frame is very neat...they made a full-sus version as well. I do wonder about how steep the steerer angle is, though...at least on a Vector one can adjust the rake. Also, that silver frame has been on eBay for ages...because there's almost no chance you'd be able to find the missing headset and fork parts, and with that oversized bottom cup it's essentially unusable with anything else.

One thing to keep in mind is that this bike is of the same vintage as the K2 5000 and 5500, nearly all of the AMP designs, and various other more advanced models. It looks like it should be from the early '90's given how little of the suspension knowledge from the day was incorporated.

BUT, what the heck is that retrofit rear suspension mechanism in the animated image? That's really interesting!

Yeah I guess the dream has died. I called their 888 number and their 503 number (which turns out to an Allstate Insurance Agency, a small touch of irony there.) I even called the Beaverton CC and no luck.

The units, from my best recollections weighed 4.5 lbs.

Yeah, kinda hard to tack on extra suspension and avoid introducing unacceptable amounts of play without making the mechanism very heavy. Plus I bet those sliders sound fantastic once they get some sand mixed in with the grease.

It would be funny to see someone put one of those on a downhilling bike with 12" of travel just to bump it up to 15". You'd never notice the extra weight on one of those beasts...though you might notice when you hit a drop really hard and your back wheel breaks off...
