Well...two complete bikes and two frames, anyway. There's my 756, which I've been discussing at length here, and a large 857 frame I bought on eBay, and a medium 857 frame someone gave me, and a complete 857 bike that I just bought yesterday on Craigslist.

I never saw a Pro-Flex besides mine in person for 12 years, and now I have four of them, three of them being the exact same color and model. Irony abounds.

Okay, so the plan is to move the parts from the fully-built medium bike to the large frame I have, and turn it into a bike for my dad. I'm going to be installing a Manitou Axel fork on the large frame, so I won't need the Girvin Cross-Link Elite that's on the medium frame now.

The Cross-Link has some cosmetic wear, i.e. scuffed decals and spots where the paint got rubbed off, but it's still aligned properly, dent-free, and the Noleen shock is in good shape. Anyone interested in buying it?

Hmm...good question. I'd have to pack it in a box and weigh it to find that out, but it's not off the bike yet. However, I'll find out as soon as I can, which is to say as soon as the fork I bought on eBay shows up so I can start disassembling the medium bike.

Of course, if someone here has sent a Girvin Crosslink to the UK and happens to remember the shipping cost, I can use that as an estimate.

Yea, I've only seen one other Proflex becides mine till I found the ALL MIGHTY SITE lol. Also on top of that I have yet to see one like mine,  A 95 Attack what I now think to be a lower end model.

I have to say, after riding a bit on the 9-series frames, it's clearly a better design than whatever series my 756 is. The "dig-in" in the low gears (which is really just a compromise to avoid yanking up on the swingarm every time you stomp the pedals) is much, much less pronounced on the 9-series. Kinda makes me wish I had a new un-used medium 857 to go along with the new un-used large 857 I'm giving (selling) to my dad.

The last crosslink I had from the US cost about £30-£35 via UPS if I remember correctly. It certainly wasnt any more, but that was over a year ago. There were a few shocks in the box also. You might get hit with a little tax on that aswell though.

Similar thing here. The first Proflex I ever saw was my friends bike. He was a mechanic in a Proflex dealer and had a 957 which inspired me to buy my 4000 in '98. He then sold his 957 and bought a 5000. Since then apart from way back in shops, the only other Proflex's ive ever seen up close (apart from the ones ive bought) are a college student on a white 757 last year in my home town and another white 757 on the back of a people carrier in Kaikoura,New Zealand this year.
I guess thats another big reason why I like them as they have never been commen. Every time I go out on one of them someone always stops and makes a comment. Usually good ha ha

And the 4000 style is different (better?)again. I liken my 857 to a hard tail with a bit of suspension. As its quite a firm ride but does absorb the bumps. But to me it feels more like a hard tail when peddling. Where as with my 4000 you know its a full sus all the time. Its so much plusher yet still peddles brilliantly. The 4000 peddles like a 857 with more compliant suspension. Its nice to have the best of both worlds.

Reminds me of the time I was riding around on my college campus and one of the university cops yelled out his window "Hey you on the bike, come over here!" I rode over, kinda nervous, and he said "Whoa, that front suspension is totally different! That's really cool!" I said "...uhhhh...uh, yeah, it is, thanks..."

"Hey you on the bike, come over here!" F**king cops, man...

Automatic feelings of guilt when talking tp policemen is a sign of an honest soul..........

Guilt? Who said anything about guilt? I was afraid I was going to get jerked around by a dumb egotistical cop who had nothing better to do and needed to kill time before his shift ended. What is automatic feelings of irritation when talking to a policeman a sign of?

These are the same guys who I had the following conversation with, a couple of years later, when I was packing my car early in the morning to drive home for Thanksgiving:

[pulls up behind my car, blocks me in, gets out of his truck]
"Is this your car son?"
"Yep."
"You a student at this university?"
"Yep." [resumes packing stuff in the backseat]
"Boy, is all you know how to say is Yep?!"
[pause] "What you you like me to say."
"I would like you to say 'Yes sir! How may I help you sir!'"
[longer pause] "Yes. Sir."

After he was done busting my balls, he even had the courtesy to tell me he was just busting my balls. Ya know, I hear people say "you don't know what it's like, police have to put up with so much sh*t every day, they gotta unwind somehow." Well you know what, I work in IT and I have to put up with sh*t every day too -- no, I don't get shot at, but neither do most cops -- and I don't get to "unwind" at the expense of my customers. I have to come up with other ways to unwind. That's why I ride my bike, among other things. Why should I tolerate that behavior from ANY professional?

I won't even bother recounting the conversation I had with the Lynchburg City Police when they yelled at me to stop collecting the personal information from the crying teenage girl who totaled my car while it was parked in front of my house a couple years later.
