Value of an 854?
« on: October 18, 2009, 03:43:50 am »
In my search for a new frame, which is over after I got the new 856, a friend just emailed that he got this off his neighbor.

What do you guys think is a fair price for an 854 frame? I can't help but think Single Speed when I see these. Not sure I will actually get this one unless the price is right, just curious as to what others think its value may be or what they have been selling for.

Just bought this frame/fork for $50Au, thats probably the equivalent of a cup of coffee in pounds or dollars US.

Just need to get some replacement elastomers and this bike has a new life as my SS.

Is that a small frame? The headtube is really short.
Can't get over how the elastomers just melt off.

Check the welds on the swingarm at the crossbar.  I had an old 953 that cracked there.

Apparently it is a medium.

I've not seen it, but a good friend has and its supposed to be in reasonable condition. I was thinking though of having decals made up and getting it a fresh spray job.

I've always wanted one of these frames, so hopefully I am not disappointed in the way it rides.

I have my Offroad, and the travel at the rear is really short. I would liken to a softail, but I have to say I like mine. Of course mine has just the flexstem up front so I have to consider that also.

So I would figure you would get 2 inches travel front and rear. Keep the sponges stiff and it should work pretty good for a SS.

I was considering getting rigid forks eventually. If I did I would be on the hunt for a flex stem, but its not high on my list at the moment. 2 inches of travel though is long travel compared to the 1 inch I thought I was getting. The bike is getting closer to a freeride bike all the time,  :o

It took me ages to work out what was going on there in the pics. Not quiet sure why there is a rag in there.
