Which forks are available with a 1" stem to fit my 955?

Vectors would be the obvious choice
Otherwise Marzocchi made plenty of Forks with 1" steerers, or Pace as well.

Have vector 2's fitted but struggeling to have as much control on downhill parts as more modern xc bikes. Feel as though its mainly the forks that are the main problem.
Anyone know whare i can get some 100mm 1" steerer ones?

check that the 955 is 1" - because I know all the vectors were 1" but were typically fitted with a 1/8" shim - e.g. my proflex was actually 1.125", and not 1".

The 955 and 855 are definitely 1 1/8th steerers. At least both of mine are.
That obviously opens up a whole world of options on forks. The axle to crown is probably the more important thing to worry about.

I ran a 100mm Marzocchi Bomber Z1 on my 856 back in the day and felt really nice - it improved the head angle and made it a more capable bike. Of course, nowadays, you could put a 09 Rock Shox Sid World cup on a 955 and with modern parts, make it an extremely light weight bike.
remember that top of the range modern forks do not have brake bosses and instead just have post mount disk lubs.

I've run fox floats and a Marzocchi (forgotten the model) on my 955. Like you I found the bike was improved by the tweak to the head angle.
I did like having a disc up front as well, but currently have gone back to the Girvin Crosslink.

What maximum axle to crown length would you recomend? Standard is 16 1/2" looking at some marzzocis that are 19"

I wouldn't go for forks above 100mm TBH.
