RISSE!
« on: June 02, 2009, 11:11:59 am »
Wow, just for kicks I called the number I have for Risse and guess what - they answered! Not sure exactly who it was I was speaking with, but the gentleman said that the move has been crazy. He's sending me a UPS return authorization form by email and then I'll do the shock return. I know there's the possibility that this could end up with me minus my cash and my shock...but at this point it's worth a shot, since it's useless to me without the service.

I'll let you all know how things go :-)

So I stop yappin about it, huh? ;-) I did a quick search yesterday for "risse issues" or something like that and it seems that all sorts of wheeled sport enthusiasts are having trouble getting issues resolved. There are collegiate cart clubs that have sent Risse shocks that were never returned, etc. I'm a little worried I may never see my Astro 5 once I have it to the UPS guy...but it's worth a shot.

I was getting skeptical, because my UPS return authorization email hadn't arrived, but sure enough, yesterday, there it was in my inbox. I have the shock with me and will be returning it today. I already pulled the trigger on a Fox Float R, which might arrive sometime next year when the CS guy at Universal Cycles gets his head out of his butt and off his Surlianchi Pisteamroller and gets a clue. UC is turning our to be the worst online parts supplier I've ever dealt with, now screwing up the second of two simple orders I've placed with them.

Keeping fingers crossed with Risse...

Excellent news. I am following this thread with great interest. They have treated me very well in the past.

One bright spot for me is that I won't have to pay sales tax any longer. ;D Unless Mr. Obama pushes through the National VAT to pay for saving the world economy. >:(

I finally agve up and decided to eat the money i spent on the risse p.o.s. and stop the bleeding so to speak.  I went to noleenj6.com and ordered a coil shock for my beast and it has worked better than the risse ever did.  i highly recommend giving them a shot if no luck with risse.  To me it just wasnt worth the down time and hassle of dealing with all the returns that turned into not being able to make contact with them.

bueno suerte amigo  ;D

Hey all,
So I don't have my Astro5 back yet, of course, but I did pick up a near-new Genesis for the rear of my 4000 on ebay for $100. I'm pleased with the dual Genesis dampers...who knows when I'll have my Astro5 back. Sadly, the ebay deal came along after I'd already ordered a new Fox Float R, so we'll see which performs better.
More to come...

Still no package from Risse, but that cheap Genesis rear I snapped on eBay is installed on the 4000 and working well. Given the rebound they set at the factory I'm not really sure if I'll like the Astro5 better...the Genesis' rebound is quite nice.

More to come...

You can let the air out, unscrew the shaft retainer, and exchange the oil for lighter or heavier. They told me that you fill the body full of oil, then install the retainer letting the oil spill over. Tighten, then clean and you are done.

I replaced what seemed to be 30 weight oil with lite spindle oil, and got the desired result for my vector.

Good news, people! My repaired Astro5 arrived back from Risse today, and it works great! Hopefully Kevin is back in the saddle again and taking charge!

I just wanted to note that I sent a Risse Genesis back to them for a rebuild (it was a few years old), and ordered a new Genesis for my '98 3000 to replace the NR-2 in the fork.  It took a while (~2-3 weeks I think), and they weren't great about communicating, but I did eventually get both.  This was around mid-June, roughly the same time as DugB's posts.

Haven't installed them yet, so I don't know if they work.

I was thinking about getting the Risse Terminator upgrade for my 1996 Proflex 856 but after reading these posts I am having second thoughts. Any advice or comments would be appreciated.
Thank you.
