Proflex 853 with Vector 2 Shocks - Which Headset ?
« on: May 26, 2009, 03:44:25 pm »
Hi Guys 1st post and all that, looking for a little help.  :D

I have a Proflex 853 which had Gervin Proforx on, but I have now got a set of Girvin Vector 2 forks  ;D I want to install. My problem is the headsets are way off.

The Frame has a 34mm tube which I think is 1 1/8" in imperial ?

The Vector Forks have a 1" tube how the hell do I make them fit, I know they were available as standard when new so the parts must have existed ??

Cheers
Matt

Hi and welcome - the Vectors should have come with a couple of shims top and bottom to take them up to 1 1/8"... yours I guess are missing.

WOW thanks for such a quick reply,

No the Vectors came from ebay and had been running on an Orange frame not a Proflex, so I just need a couple of shims one for top and bottom ?

Cheers

either that or you can buy 1 1/8" -> 1" reducer headsets like these, but for the correct size: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=25722

or 1 1/8" -> 1" headset reducers, like these (check the third image down): http://www.mountainbikecomponents.co.uk/items.asp?CategoryID=169&Name=Headset+Reducers
