World Exclusive: New Carbon Proflex 890
« on: May 20, 2009, 02:19:49 pm »
it gives me great pleasure in showing the true Proflex/k2 fans the first pictures of the new carbon Proflex 890 that will be on sale in a months time.  I just got the go ahead from Proflex and some details on the bike.

here it is:

Some Details:
  • custom rp23 shock
  • full carbon frame in small, medium, large, extra large
  • Fox F100 with 15mm QR
  • carbon seatpost + lots of trick bits

There are no groupset details, but expect the top of the line components such as XTR or X.0.  The photos have XTR lineup for the 890 and various groupsets on the aluminium bikes.

There are interesting aluminium XC and Enduro frames detailed here: http://www.eurobike.uk.com/list.aspx?CAT=36

Here is the 798 Enduro (longer travel) bike:

I am hoping to ride them shortly and will report back.  If you have questions, post them here and I'll invite Proflex to come and reply.  I don't have any commercial links to the new Proflex except that i am drooling at the carbon bike and might buy one for myself!!!

Looks a good bike.

Can you clarify the connection (if any) between the new Proflex and the former Proflex? Is it just the name or is there more? Where are they based?

I saw a post on retrobike - I think they are a Spanish outfit & just bought the name.

Love the look of that carbon bike - looks like the younger sibling of mine with the fox rp23, XTR & anodised gold forks.

Questions for Callum:

1: Launch weekend to celebrate the return of Proflex where we all tip up with our old bikes & get to enjoy the new ones.
2: Healthy discounts for existing owners, or wholesale prices to get the ball rolling
3: Bike to work scheme - has to get them on that via retailer to deny Inland Revenue their pound of flesh.

I'm sure they would understand the publicity they could achieve if a bunch of existing owners came together with their old bikes to pick up their new ones!

that was my post as I thought they were Spanish - but I'm not sure now.

politically speaking; they are an international team from Catalonia - which is a northern province between Spain, Andorra and France.  Rather like Scotland is a country but not really classed as a country in its own right.

That carbon 890 has been my screensaver today and I'm getting no work done.

I wonder why they made the 890 single pivot when the lesser ones are VPP.

Pivot location makes it look it would function like a 955/856/XP type bike with a much improved shock.  And that arm that attatched to the seat tube and the chainstay makes it possible to use a non-strut shock.

single pivot makes a lot of sense for lightweight bikes - especially for a race bike where complexity has to be minimal.  So is anyone keen on buying one?

Will they be available in the US?  I'd like to put my hands on one before deciding whether or not to buy it...or at least hearing what you guys who will certainly have it first think.

I have to admit, it is pretty good looking, and the wife is finally finishing school in August, so I may really be in a position to start feeding my Proflex addiction again... ;D

Looks like they both have 6 pivot points. That makes 12 bearings or bushings.

That carbon bike is indeed pretty sexy. Now if it had the Horst link me thinks I would have to have one. I don't know how much Specialized charges for liscensing, but if it was included, it would be THE bike to have.
