I may have found my old Proflex on ebay - WOW, small world LQQK.
« on: December 17, 2008, 03:18:56 am »
I just wrote the guy a note, seeing if I can get any history on the frame.

Heres the note I wrote. Frame is in Garland Texas

Where did you get the frame? I lived in Garland about 5 years ago, live in califinia now. Long story short I moved from cali to be with my girlfriend, didnt work out, and I was forced to sell my Proflex to a pawnshop just so I could eat. My proflex had elastomers that were thrashed. I'm wondering if thats my old frame. Do you have any history on that frame? Thanks, much apprciated.

[edit] If you look at the rear shock, it looks just like an elastomer set up (just like the washers on my frame, bronze bottom washer black top washer) but looks like the guy replaced the elastomers with a spring, almost homemade looking spring. Also this frame has the same stickers as my old one, the proflex I have now has the older stickers.

Also just sent another question.

I forgot to ask, do you know what parts were orginally on the bike, did it ever have elastomers on it, or a rock shok judy, red titec ti berserker seat, S&M red bmx pedals?

Can anyone tell me about that shock set-up on the Proflex picturd above? It looks alot like it had a elastomer set-up to me,  but instead of replacing the entire assembly, it appears the elastomers were replaced with spring, but I'm not sure?

I'll need to go somewhere to scan this, but this is a pic of a pic I took with my digital camera of my old Proflex, I know this pic is pretty much worthless, especially for comparasen purposes, but, least you have an idea of what my old bike looked like.

[edit] The guy just got back to me - said he got it from original owner and it had the stock stuff on it - anyway, was just a shot in the dark - but you never know though - it could have been.

When living in ORegon, I sold my second ever mountain bike for $300.  It is a Miyata Terra Runner.  a few years later when I moved from the state, on a whim, I tracked down the bike and bought it back for $100.  It was hanging from the rafters in a garage.  It is now my commuter, general pavement pounder, errand bike and once a kid trailer puller.  It has one nice triple butted, lugged frame with the pump peg on the seat tube.

as for the rear shock, that looks like a friction shock with a later coil spring added? My limited understanding of these shocks is that the friction of the MCU's acted as the damping and so without them and a coil spring instead of MCU's you won't have any damping and you'll have a pogo-stick instead!

the friction shock has friction material inside the shock tube....I would say a ruber washer maybe 10-15 mm in length which rubs against th einside of the shock tube....moves pretty freely though....

I once sold a '69 VW Squareback to a guy in DE...that was almost 10 years ago...this year I found an ad for the very same Squareback, which had been abused and modified, and had been found in the garage of a house that had been foreclosed. I only recognized it initially because at one point I removed the bezels from the speedo and other gauges and painted them the same color as the car.

I have never come across something I'd sold in the past where it was in better condition now :-/

I only have one bike from my past I sold and bought back. I have a 20" Standard STA - best damn BMX I ever rode or owned. I sold it to a friend and kicked myself in the a$$ for doing so. Anyway, my friend decided he didnt want it anymore so I jumped on it. Its just a frame and fork now, but I will never sell it again. I bought it new and this frame was a custom order by the way.

back in 98 i sold my offroad master to pay for £300 deposit on my gt lts..

master was 12" frame with u-brake removed...new brake bosses brazed in the normal place to fit maguras...also had to re-weld the mech hanger back on as p/o had just brazed another on to the side of the dropout(DOH!)
also had vector 1s fitted....super stiff tange frame with short top tube..
just found the guy i sold it to on face book of all places!! slowly contacting all of the owners to see where it ended up....hopefully in a garage somewhere....put alot of love into this bike so if it's gonna be in a garage it's gonna be mine...
