if so you will probably be better off with COR springs from RDS as that bike has ODS shocks.

You could get some ideas from this thread.

http://idriders.com/proflex/smf/index.php?topic=3112.0

or go the other way and buy some expensive Risse shocks

http://www.risseracing.com/proflex.shtml

There is also some guy in the states who keeps posting NOS elastomers

http://idriders.com/proflex/smf/index.php?topic=3064.0

you could wait for some of these to come up again and see if someone will send some across the pond for you.

crikey - 300 for a 1996 proflex beast!  that's a lot of money. yes, I sell the COR springs (and have a brand new batch in stock) for 69 quid for a set (incl postage),  They will improve the ride considerably.

I don't make any money from RDS - its just a hobby thing that allows me to tinker with proflexes - it is quite expensive to get custom made springs (the fronts are varipitch as well) and they come with CNC'd end caps and a bumpout elastomer.

The alternatives:
+ Noleen BR2 shocks (on sale at NoleenJ6.com)  (about 500 USD)
+ Risse shocks with the proflex connector  (not sure, the uk distributor went under some years ago CVI Ltd)
+ yellow elastomers on ebay - they came up recently.

I would consider sending the bike back because they ebay advert should have said that the shocks were gubbed.

Welcome!

The Cor springs from Callum seem to be a no-brainer to me.

The interesting thing about your bike is the Spinergy wheels. Those tend to fetch a good sum themselves. I have a pair that came to me when a TV show stopped production. Aside for crosslink forks, those get the most attention from passersby.

According to the listing the bike sold for £350 as a "Buy It Now" ??
Or how did you get it cheaper?
At £300 I don't think you paid over the odds for it (I'm biased and probably "talk up" the value of these bikes! <GRIN>), but then again a brand new Trek can be had for £700ish.......
From the photo's, the Rear MCU's look little used, i.e. often they are crushed down and also rock hard, (The front MCU's look a little crushed and the front end is a bit low?).
Overall, the bike looks in very good condition, nice and clean and little used?
and.....with those Spinergy's on it, I'd say you've got £100-£150 worth of wheels!
I've got a set on my 4000se and they're great except in a side wind when they do catch it a bit!

IMHO, forget replacement MCU's, Coil springs are the way to go, I've got some on my XP-X (very similar to your Beast). Yes, you can source springs from other places (see some of my other replies to threads), but you really need metal adaptor plates to replace the plastic ones that the MCU's use. Callum (RDS) supplies the only "fit and forget" kit available and is very good value compared to the original "Speedspring" kit that was available in the day. I'd recommend it.

If the rest of the bike is as good as it looks, then you'll have a great mountain bike that'll last you for years!
