Heading out for a weekend on the ProFlex/K2
« on: July 25, 2008, 02:48:36 pm »
Hey all,

Hope everyone has a great weekend...I'm off for a weekend on the K2 (mine's a 4000). Doing 120 miles on the C&O Canal (near Wash DC) with a friend. I know it's pretty flat, but I'm still getting back into shape. The 4000 is working well, now sporting XTR M952 9-speed components and a Truvativ crank. For a Way Big it's lighter than I thought I could make it. I'll let you know how it goes.

Hey all,

Though I can't really post the pics from this computer, I did want to report that the 130 mile ride on the 4000 went without a hitch. The bike performed flawlessly and was actually pretty comfortable to ride for the long period of time. We maintained about 13 MPH consistently on the C&O Canal towpath...a relaxed pace compared to how fast someone in better shape could ride it.

I love this bike...

Hey that's cool.  I live in the DC area, sorta (Frederick County).  We have Gambrill State Park in Frederick to ride on.  Last time I went there I blew a tire, I remember it being pretty technical, lol.  Might start at the Canal this time  ;D

I'm going to be heading your way during the week of Sept 13th to the 20th. A couple of friends and I are going to start in Pittsburgh and do a selfcontained ride down the GAP and C&O to D.C. to do a little sightseeing and then ride the train back to Pittsburgh. Approximately 350 miles. Won't be riding the Proflex or K2 though. I will probably be on this:

or this:

Haven't decided yet which one will work best on the C&O. I'm leaning more to the Schwinn.

Nice! I've been wanting to do the ride to Pittsburgh (I grew up in Forest Hills) and hear the trail is really nice...nicer than the C&O according to many of the people we met on the trail. I did the whole C&O when I was 17 and thought it was pretty decent. Have a great ride!

Where is it that you start this trek?  and for that matter, wait a sec, is this turning in a Pittsburgh thread?!?  I'm sitting in Dormont/Beechview (Pittsburgh suburbs) right now and can't think where you would start a trip like this other than Ohiopyle or somewhere southeast of Uniontown, PA... :-)

Hahahaha :-)

From what I know the long-term plan is for the trail to join up with that path that enters downtown by the new jail. But I don't think it does right now...people we met on the trail indicate that the Cumberland to Pittsburgh trail ends in McKeesport, and then you're on your own getting to downtown, if that's your destination.

Do they still have the "Month of Mud" races in Sept/Oct?

I think so...being Pittsburgh we should just call it the century of mud...its been a while, but I'm hoping to get up to Hidden Valley or Seven Springs for a little DH time soon...
