Need help with my Girvin Vector 2 forks
« on: October 15, 2007, 09:18:31 am »
Hey Gang!

I just received my used pair of Girvin Vector 2 forks and of course the elastomers were "mush". I also found the the oil damper is not allowing the linkages to move freely because of a sticky residue that come out on the shaft every time I actuate the suspension links. I can clean it over and over again, but the shaft keeps coming out with the sticky residue. Can the oil damper be removed cleaned out and refilled with some type lubricant or the like and then be re-installed? Or can it be replaced?

Also, I've tried contacting Rapid Descent several times to no avail through their web site to get elastomers. Is their another way to reach them????

Where are you located?

Are you sure the damper is an ODS?

Any kind of photo would help alot.

ODS is quite easy to take apart (if it is an ODS) - here are rapiddescent's instructions:

http://www.rapiddescentscotland.co.uk/index.php?module=documents&JAS_DocumentManager_op=viewDocument&JAS_Document_id=2

and select ODS Oil Change pdf.

In terms of contacting Callum at Rapiddescent, this is his email address:

That is a friction damper. No oil is in it, just grease.

Now find some elastomers and you are set.

Adrenaline Bikes in Orange, California has them if you are in the states.

This is a Vector 2 with the non-ods shock as fitted to the 656. The process to strip / rebuild is on callum's rapid descent website.
