there was a topic not so long back about what can replace a proflex/k2 well heres my new winter bike (oz now in hibernation for the forthcoming winter)  built up from a nos frame some free forks and a load of bits i had kicking about the house cost in the region of £180. vpp anyone??

Do you have any more free forks lying about?  :)  Nice 'winter' bike.  I hope my 'all the time bike' comes out as good as that one.  :)

Gonna have to agree with Asylum on this one!!! Nice ride... Looks to be the exact same color as MY winter ride, which is a single speed hardtail. (Love that color). Yours probably rides a ton nicer though. However, mine cost about the same as yours, except in US dollars... ($180). I think you got the better deal...

to be honest i think it was a case of `right place right time` for the forks, a guy on another forum was giving them away as the steerer tube was too short for his bike, no one took him up on the offer for 3 months, then he mentioned it again in a different thread and i thought `hello` im sure they will fit my hardtail, so i emailed the guy and 2 months later they were in my sweaty palms (busy guy!!) i bought the frame for myself as a birthday pressie last month so i could take the k2 out of action for the winter and also as id read about them being a vpp frame that santa cruz objected to. the headtube on the new frame was actuallly shorter than my hardtail which was a bonus, now i have lots of dials with which to play with and havent a clue what most of them do  lol

rides really nice, totally different to the oz, back end is very plush, climbs ok considering its got 130mm forks on it and the brakes (bb5`s) are awesome, better than the hopes on the oz.

The lower line Avid mechanicals are better than hope hydro's?  Now I am even more excited about putting discs on my Oz :)

The Avid 7's are fantastic. Some companies are devoted to the word "quality" but Avid actually practices it.

Oh... and the BB's 5 or 7 are super easy to bleed compared to the Hopes!
