Servicing Risse Astro-5 - help!
«
on:

After some success at servicing my Rockshox and Marzocchi forks, I'm on a bit of a roll and want to give my Astro-5 rear shock a go next.
How easy is it to service? Anything I need to watch out for? What weight oil should I use (I am 13st or 185lbs approx)?
Any help appreciated.

The factory oil is 10wt I was told by the factory. I ended up using lite spindle oil(2 wt.) and that worked ok to the front genesis shock.
Pretty easy to clamp shock upright, grab the seal nut with a wrench and unscrew. The rinse out the old oil, fill with new so it tops out in the body, and screw the nut back in. Must maintain 5 to 10 psi in the spring chamber.
What they do at the factory is check the shaft for scoring, and replace the seal nut.
That is as much as I know.
Good luck,
Terry

Cool - thanks - sums up what I managed to find here last night, which shows how to reassemble, but strangely not how to dissassemble on the Risse website!

i find that a very big hammer and or cold chisel will dis-assemble anything.Of course you cant always re assemble it.Thats why i belong to websites like this.
