856 for parts 20" selling cheap locally
« on: August 07, 2007, 09:06:03 am »
Anyone want to go in on an 856 for parts?  local craigslist has one listed @ $160 US.  I figured if there was enough of us who wanted spare parts, we could probably pick it bone dry.  So far I just know that it has red (Eibach pro MS) springs.  I am not looking for a profit, just some cheap hard to find spare parts.

I have contacted the owner and she seems very pleasant to deal with but is unwilling to part or ship.  I don't have an issue with shipping, or parting.  Just with funds (Summer is tough on teachers).

How do I post pics again?

From the pics the bike looks pretty OEM and in seemingly good condition.  Eibach springs on the front and back.

the picture needs to be on the web somewhere. So you will have an adres something like
http://idriders.com/newforum/yabbimages/emoticons/nod.gif

if you then type{img}http://idriders.com/newforum/yabbimages/emoticons/nod.gif{/img} but use [ brackets instead of { brackets you will see your pic!

Could be the photo size needs to be reduced.

I could use a spare rear strut. The swingarm is the good one, and the frame looks in great shape.
$160 for the whole bike is a bargain.

Anyone know how much it is to ship a frame across the Atlantic?

To be honest, I am only really after the wheelset and whatever parts go unused.  I was sure that the other pieces would generate enough interest to cover the cost.  I would be willing to contribute about $25 overall purchase, maybe $50 depending on how much is taken.

Either way, if there is a person in need (or at least in deep want) of some spares...  I don't mind doing the legwork.

much as I am tempted the shipping would be prohibitive for the frame...but...how much would you do the forks and rear mech for (incl. shipping to UK)? Can be sent by surface (much cheaper...and slower) if necessary.

Total including my $25 or so must = $160.  If you want the forks and rear mech, Shovelon wants the strut I would say that would be about a 65/35 split (IMHO) for the remaining $135 which would be about $87 US to you.  The more people who want parts, the cheaper the price gets to each person. I don't think any of us really want to make a dime, just some quality parts for cheap.  Hypothetically, everything would be through paypal + 4% (what paypal charges for transactions).

At this point, I have only seen the pictures that I put on Flikr.  If I get enough people to commit, I will go check out the bike and we can start cussing and discussing when to pay what.  Shipping will be actual cost.  My wife works at a catalog company and it should be cheaper than normal (although I have no idea what international shipping proceedures / charges are.)

Might be a bad idea, but I figured it was worth a shot..
