Can anyone name this model ???

Hi all,

I am new to this forum and must firstly say congrats on a very informative community.

I purchased my Pro Flex/K2 approx six years ago second hand via eBay, at the time it didn't have any decals on it but I recognised the frame as a Pro Flex/K2. I seem to remember posting a pic on a forum shortly after (possibly this one!?) to find out which model it was but I can't recall what advice I was given at the time!

I do know that I purchased a set of decals from one of the forum members which are Pro Flex 959 decals! Now from memory I remember that there was never a 959 model but there was a reason that I had been prompted to put these particular decals on this model of bike!!

Any more than this I can't tell you but if anyone could shed any light/jog my memory I would be very appreciative!

looks like an 855/6 to me.

856 is my vote with a soring on the ods by the looks with a newer crosslink on the front.Cant be too sure tho without a closer look definetly a x56 or x55 tho

looks same as my 657 as well, (but that's cos it is an 855 and 756.) 657 has crosslinks though.

So it looks like it is either an 855 or 856, let me know if you need any close-up pics of any parts to determine the exact model.

My vote is early 856. This is my 855 - note no gusset on downtube but with slotted seat tube:



and here is an 856 (with gusset). Later 856 didn't have slotted seat tube I believe.

Please excuse my ignorance but what does "no gusset on downtube but with slotted seat tube" mean in newbie terms?

And can anyone advise why I would have been advised to put 959 decals on it some years ago, does the fictional 959 have some relevance with this model?

the `gusseted` down tube has an extra plate welded underneath where the downtube meets the headtube for added strength, the slotted seat tube ( thats the big hole infront of the swingarm ) was where the brake cable originally went through when the bikes were fitted with center pull cantilever brakes. as for the 959 stickers i think someone else might be able to explain that.

The gusseted 856 frame also  recieved some reinforcement on swingarm just above the front derailuer cable entry hole. There was some cracking there due to pedal input forces. I think I see this on Filmos's frame.

Does anyone know what the approx Rec Retail Price was of an 855/856 when brand new? (Pressuming that they were sold complete and not frame only!?)

959 has no relevance to this bike...959 was the the proflex number we thought should have gone on the 4500 or 5500 or OZ...remember the proflex numbering system
65,75,85,95 for model designation
5,6,7= 95 96 97
perhaps the 5 would/should be a 6 to designate carbon rather than 856,957 ie both aluminium tubed bikes...
any way thats what the 959 was about,as I said nothing to do with 85x's

that bike has RDS COR springs on it as well !!  I've yet to actually bump into someone on the trails with them...
