Hi I'm new here. I joined this group to see if anyone out there can help me with a problem I'm sure many have faced I just don't know the best solution. I own a Pro Flex 756 that I had for many years and when I took it out of storage the front shock elastomers are like two yellow hockey pucks.

I've been to and called many local bike shops and had no luck finding replacements.

What can I do?

If a but a new fork/shock what will fit my bike?

Please someone help me.

Have a look through the threads here as this has been raised many times but essentially you have a few options:

Talk to Callum at www.rapiddescentscotland.co.uk who do aftermarket elastomers and spring options

Talk to user SLIM on this forum who may be able to order you some elastomers

Go to www.risseracing.com as they do aftermarket shocks - pricey but good.

There may be others too, but start there anyway.

Thanks for the input. I am thinking about getting the Genesis Damper from Risse Racing. Have you heard any reports on it? It seems like it's a good upgrade from what I had.

I replaced a leaky noleen with a risse and really like it. Pumped it to 120 psi for 85kg rider like the guy said and it's nice and firm. Recommended

I have an Astro 5 on the rear of my 857 - it's the best shock I've ever used - so plush. Bought off Jeffhop from here a few months ago and fitted using adapter.

The risse upgrade shocks are definetely worth as shout but they do cost a bit. I've been running the genesis on the vector 2 and the astro 5 on the rear of my xp-8 for approx 3 years with no problems, and no leaks todate.
I have the way large frame and the bike only weighs 27 pounds albeit with a few choice upgrades!!

I would question the quoted travel of 75 mm for the fork on the risse site as even with the shock unpressurised i do not see that much travel. The qua;lity of the travel is good however.

Has anyone managed to fit the Look fournales fork onto a proflex yet ? It may be heresy but it apparently has more travel ....

I beleive the risse shocks needs its damping set up a lot lighter than normal to work on the vector...Someone here has sent their shock back to risse several times.

take a look at carbonman2`s pics in the gallery for pics of an oz with fournales on it. looks very nice, ive been toying with the idea for some time but im waiting for a set of cheap ones to come up on ebay!

I have sent my the shock for my crosslink in to Risse 3 times, my vector shock once. I think Josh took care of me the last time. They are both valved correctly now, as he found or stated that he found that the transer ports were made for the rear applications. But the crosslink shock still has so much bushing stiction that I can literaly hear a whining as it is compressed and rebounding.

The crosslink genisis would still make a nice rear shock, so I am not going to send it back anymore, seeing as I will be charged a rebuild fee now. I may polish and hard anodize the shaft for some reduced stiction on the crosslink shock. Maybe I will talk to Josh about that. I have a Mega-Air in standby with 100 mm of travel that I will be putting on anyway.

If I did it again, I would ask for the shock to be valved for a little girl and hope for the best. Changing oil is a snap, and you can then play with viscosities.

As for now, I am done with vector/crosslink upgrades.

My Genesis is on a crosslink (Astro 5 rear). I think the guy I spoke to was called Josh but I'm not sure. It was the same guy both times who answered the phone - he even remembered me when I placed the second order 5-6 weeks later. (I got the rear and then the front.)

Having read Shovelon's posts I checked about 4 times that it was going to be set up for the front during the order. Set to pressure the guy recommended (120 psi for 85Kg rider) fitted, rode and works lovely. Better than the, getting progressively softer, leaky Noleen.

Not bothered thinking about travel, but I ride xc and it takes the edge off, I'm not a jumper. (Although I did manage to fly into a tree on Follow The Dog at Cannock - ouch)

Just as a point of interest I emailed Risse to ask how much they charge for servicing an Astro 5 (the one in the picture above as it is leaking oil a bit) - I was quoted $40 - is it me or does that seem quite a good deal? I need to send a follow up email to check return shipping costs to UK as I don't think that was in the price although I had asked... anybody else know, off chance?

$40 is the rebuild charge only. Shipping is extra. So is any broken or worn out nonconsumable parts like scored shafts.

My rebuild on my vector shock came approximately to $70 with new shaft and shipping within 300 miles.

That's interesting as the shaft IS worn - so if they replace the shaft does the cone adapter get raplaced too? On my Astro 5 it isn't a cone so I have to use a home made adapter and it would be great if they were to turn it into a cone while replacing the shaft...
