Land of Oz(my K2)
« on: February 04, 2007, 03:44:11 pm »
Unbelievable weather this weekend. Rode Rocky Peak, and Chumash Friday and yesterday, and my legs have gone on strike.
Found this site which pretty closely describes my favorite trail.

Hi chaps, spooky post I`m of to Oz tomorrow, Melbourne to see family for a few days, then to Cairns diving and biking for 2 weeks.
Not looking forward to the flight too much though, 26 hours in cattle class, legs like a grass hopper in drain pipe trousers!
The biking looks pretty good, not to sure about hire bikes, are the brakes arse about face or UK set up? (not that every one else sets their brakes back to front)
Cheers, Tel.

Cairns will be ^%$#@ ht at this time of year, prolly in the 40,s.In NZ we set our bikes up like motorbikes with hte front brake on the right..not sure about the aussies.A  few minutes with a spanner (hopfully the brakes arent intgrated with teh shifters) would sort that out!

a bit late to reply in time - but I had a magic day out riding with Dan of Dans mountain bike tours.  He does some great routes through the rainforest at the back of the cook university and up at crocodile creek, germans house has a great ride down as well.

I stayed at trinity beach (just north of cairns) - fabulous.  also, you must get on one of the backpackers diving boats out to the reef - it is unbelievable.  There are also posher excusrions on fancy boats and you can even get a float plane out to the reef if you want.

whilst riding through the rainforest, we came across spiders as large as a dinner plate.  it's so unline here in scotland because there isn't that much wildlife that will chase you and eat you. - except glasweigen schoolchildren..
