Wow!!!

I like both those bikes. The rush geometry mimics the oz, and looks simple. I really like the lines of the Ibis.

One question is where they may be produced. Cannondale has usually been produced in the US.

Why does it seem like there's a 10 year delay out there?

1996 Proflex delivers the 856
2006 The 856-ish Heckler is "The Best Bike Deal Ever" (MBA)

1997 The K2 Carbon Arrives
2007 Cannondale, Giant, Ibis, and Specialized have their versions of the OZ "kind of available" (No... I don't count the Fuel... yuck!)

If Proflex/Girvin/K2 etc. could have stayed in business, imagine where we would be today...

I still have the Oz but ....................................................I have bought a Scott ransom Ltd! Lots of carbon still with 165mm of rear wheel travel - adjustable on the fly to 10mm or full lock out.

So far it's brilliant.

To answer my own question, both frames are made in Taiwan(I don't have a problem with Taiwan, but I do with China).

My good old Oz was made in Vashon, Washington. Still taking a licking.

Hi Simon.

the frames that broke were aluminium Ransoms, not the carbon version.

The frame is in fact designed and engineered for aggresive free ride use and will take significant abuse. Rear travel is 165mm with ability to shorten that on the fly.

As a complete build it is not that light when compared to the Oz. Its just over 31pounds with pedals. It should be noted that I could make it a lot lighter with narrower XC tyres, lighter wheels and a lighter fork and pedals.

I am now running 2.35inch Maxxis Igniter tyres and a 2007 Marzocchi All Mountain 1 SL fork - (120mm -160mm travel) along with Shimano 647DX pedals. All of that lot adds significant weight. It's all a compromise between ease of going up and ease of going down!

Currently it has a RaceFace XC c/set but I have a new XTR set waiting for the finish of winter in the UK before I fit it.

Still I have not deserted K2 completely  - I have just bought a new set of K2 Apache Recon skis and they are gorgeous!

Hi Mark

glad your happy with the Ransom I rather like the look of them myself so you've gotta let me have ago
on it,

just a note though that link I gave has got piccies
of broken carbon Ransoms and I know you like getting some air out on the trails,

I'm sure it'll be fine though those probably were subjected to some serious abuse.

I am keeping my Oz, but this will be my hardtail.  The Mrazek Boh FX.
http://www.mrazek.com/

I would consider a Trimble upside down "4" frame also. [smiley=nod.gif]

Hi Simon,

yep, I didn't check out the link - rather stupidly thought it would be the Singletrack posts in the UK of earlier this year.

Not sure that I am that worried. Scott have more experience than any other mfr out there using carbon. I suspect that that was one batch of veru early bikes delivered in one shipment to the US.

I'm in the trade and see/hear a lot about other bikes that brake - there is not a single make/model carbon or alloy that has not been broken by someone.

That's not to say this won't brake but I'll chance it - I know I'll get good support from Scott if there is a problem.

So, fingers crossed coz it's lovely ride and awesome downhill. I tried several other long travel bikes (Ransom, Maverick ML8 and Rocky Mountain Slayer) and in my mind the Scott suited my needs best.

You are more than welcome to ride here when we next meet.

I'll definitely hold you to that,
shame the weathers so crap at the mo,

I agree that it was probably early teething problems,
really can't see you having any such problems,
