risse astro 5 advice
« on: December 16, 2006, 10:32:31 am »
Hi All,
Its been a loooong time since I've posted, but "Blue Crush" is still going strong. She and I have travelled many, many offroad miles together over the past few years and I love it more than ever.

Here's my question: I've noticed that my Astro 5 doesn't extend fully until I pick the bike up. That is, it sags even when I'm not on the bike. I filled up the air pressure to what its supposed to be. Didn't help. When I lift the bike, the shock extends a bit. Is it time for a rebuild?

it seems to be working okay, but should I send it in for a rebuild this winter.

What are your thoughts?

thanks
DG

There was some info about this very same thing (or at least similar) just in the past couple of weeks (on this forum). Something about oil leaking into the air chamber or something similar.... Can't remember who posted it off the top of my head. Oh yeah, it was Simon:

Matno,

thanks for the info. I am going to send the shock back to Risse to have it rebuilt by them.

You don't need to do that, as all your shock needs is an oil change/refill. The instructions are available on the Risse website. It's a very easy DIY job. It takes longer to get the shock off the frame than it does to change the oil.

Risse shocks are designed for easy maintenance and there's not much that an owner cannot do with a few tools.
