Good news! I won't be riding as much!
« on: March 13, 2006, 04:54:26 am »
Okay, that's the downside. The good news is that I just matched for a residency position in Orthopaedic Surgery! That means I won't have the time to ride or the money to buy/upgrade for the next 5-6 years, but after that I should have both in greater abundance than I currently do! 8) (Hey, maybe I'll be able to buy a Whyte...) ;)

This calls for a celebratory ride!

 [smiley=beer.gif] [smiley=beer.gif]congrats, matno!!
now i won't have to go to eric heiden for info!
hope you won't mind me asking questions, here and there. i've had 6 knee surgeries, one being a ACL rebuild that used my patellar tendon for the graft.
as we all get older(baby boomers), we'll need a ortho resource for all of our aches, pains and injuries.

Congrats on the residency position in Orthopedic Surgery, In my former occupation Army 3rd SF delta 3 (weapons specialist) I've had the misfortune to require the services of such, but that life ended in Mogadishu Somalia and now with an 85% medical discharge about $2100 a month to spend on my mental rehab i.e.. biking great way to clear the head!!!
Good luck God speed and thanks for the input

Okay... please tell us the residency is in Breckenridge, or Tahoe, or Whistler...
Maybe you can ride to work? (Like you won't be tired or anything ;) )

Best of luck. The world could use more bone crackers that like to ride mountain bikes!

I wish! No, I'll still be here in the good old Bronx! Fortunately, I won't actually be LIVING in the Bronx anymore (although the last few years here have been fun!) The next step is to find a place to live (outside the Bronx) that we can actually afford. Prices for housing here are SCARY.

I may ride to work on occasion, but since I'll be at least 20 minutes away by car, riding to work at 5:00am is only somewhat appealing. Actually, it's very appealing, I just don't like the idea of leaving my bike unattended all day, and showering at the hospital isn't my favorite either (but if I don't, nobody will want to work with me!)

As for medical advice, feel free to ask. I've found though, that accuracy in diagnosis goes down significantly when I can't do an actual exam... I have acquired some knowledge about biking-specific injuries over the last couple of years though. With any luck, someday I'll have the opportunity to be a "team doc" for a cycling team (at least a local one!)

Kiwi, Don't remind me how long some of us have been on this board! (For me, that would be almost 7 years...) Since I started posting here, I've gotten married, finished a law degree, had three kids, built 4 bikes, and will soon be done with medical school. (I wish I could say I'll be done with studying and tests forever, but that's not in my future - even the distant future). Nice to know that my bikes are still comparable to new stuff out there. (With a few upgrades here and there).

Bill, I have all the tools (hammer, chisel, wrenches, Dremel, power saws, etc) that I need for orthopaedics. I'm still looking for the garage though! (See reference to housing prices above). Actually, our main criteria for a home are: garage, yard (for the kids), and enough rooms/storage space to fit all our junk. Everything else is incidental...

Sean, now that I'll be moving out of the city, I'll finally be able to get some of my weapons out of storage and keep them in my own house! (Stupid NYC gun laws). Although with little kids in the house, I'll probably won't get all of them... I don't even want to think about what you experienced in Somalia, but as a former military brat, I appreciate your sacrifice. Thanks!

:) :)As far as I'm concerned all gun laws are pretty stupid!!
Outlaw guns and only outlaws will have them NYC case in point!!
And as far as my sacrifice it was purely for selfish reasons  [smiley=nod.gif]adrenalin junky LOL
Really I think I was subconsciously suicidal But I'm over it now LMAO

But thank you, Best regards and good luck in your profession as a student and happy trails
