Evo vs Heckler

Finished building up my Heckler frame and finally took her for a ride. Wow, the 5th element  is a very smooth shock, still dialing it in. My 99 EVO was a good trailbike and that is what sold me on the single pivot.  The 5th makes pedal feedback and bobbing almost non existent. The Z1 is stiff and smooth but needs more time to break in. The fork is heavy, but the ETA makes it worthwhile, plus it looks good with Rootbeer. I like the single pivot design and now the 5th element makes it better. Take care, Rich

The 5th does indeed improve the single pivot experience. I have some time on a Bullit with one. Great bike!

both are single pivots, with similar pivot locations.
I wonder how the evo would feel to you with the same shock (5th element); I would guess.....similar?

I would guess... Heavier! Those 5th element shocks are pretty hefty. But I'd sure like to try one! BTW, how much DOES the Heckler weigh? I sure is a beautiful bike! I never thought I'd like that Root Beer color until I saw yours...

I havn't weighed the bike, but with the Z1 and 219 rims, probably adds a few lbs. Id guess around 31lbs. It's a nice solid build, nothing extravagant. I think OP found his 5th for around 250-300 on Ebay. 500 new. I found the frame on Ebay slightly used. Rootbeer happened to be the color I was looking for. Saved about 300 on the frame. The pivot location is a little bit different than the EVO, plus the geometry of the frame. The EVO steers a little quicker, the Heckler a little more stable at speed. Rich

That pivot location can't be more than 3/8 of an inch different than the Evo. Comparing your pic to mine, they look virtually identical (in location).

My buddy's getting one of those.  He has an old Heckler and cracked the swingarm.  Normally you would just replace the swingarm for $200, but his Heckler is really old and Santa Cruz no longer has the old swingarm.    Santa Cruz offered to replace his whole frame for $400 and $700 if he wanted the 5th Element with the frame.  He already bought a new Stinky since it's going to take 3 months to get the new Heckler.  There's already a line forming for guys who are trying to talk him into selling the Heckler to them.
