even $75 isn't bad for a spare swing-arm!

Col.

I forgot to mention that they were alum only, no carbon.

Well, from everything I've heard, that's even better, although that means they're not the bushing type, but rather the sealed bearing version for '99 and later models. Not for 4000, 4500, 5000, 5500s. Only for Evo, Oz, etc... Of course, Simon could do it, but it's pretty intense!

If the swingarms come with bearings, then the intall is pretty straight forward. It is modifying the clamp diameters that is the problem. That's where Simon comes in.

The hardware after that should be easy.

I don't think that's the part of the modification that Simon was offering to do though! If I recall (Simon, correct me if I'm wrong) he actually cut the aluminum arm to widen it, then welded the plates back together in the new shape (this was on his aluminum swingarm to carbon triangle conversion). Not quite the same as a "simple" bushing to bearing conversion of the same swingarm...

Haven't really been following this thread  :-[

But Matno is correct the aluminium s/arm will not fit
the carbon frame without widening  the front pivot area, all contact points are the same though,eg pivot
point, shock mounting, length from centre of pivot point to centre of dropout etc.

$75 though does seem very good value though,
also the aluminium s/arm is interchangable between evo bush type and the evo frame mounted needle bearing system, they used the same arm then just adapted the mounting to suit.

Simon,

Inquireing minds want to know. How much wider did you have to open the pivot area ruffly? I am just curios.

That is a lot of work, comming from someone that does this stuff for a living.

Approx 10mm total,

            5mm from each side,

yes it was a fair bit of work considering all the cutting
and the plate inlays were just knocked up in my little garage,
but you know me once I start something I just get on with it,
this widening was unexpected until the first fit up
so had no choice but to get on with it,
I also had to file the inner dropout welds flush for clearance, this as it turned out didn't leave adeqate weld, so removed all the weld and made a deeper
section for a new weld that I could then file down flush,
all fine now, still being used/raced by my Son.

Oh just a note I didn't widen the actual pivots just the triangular area above the pivots you see in the pics,

EASTON/GIRVIN SWING ARMS
« Reply #85 on: December 13, 2005, 06:23:27 am »
Just a quick note to everyone. The arms have been sent out and you should be getting them soon. My secretary said she had no problems with getting them posted - so, hope everyone enjoys when they get them.

I'm out on a buisness trip for the office - I'll try and keep in touch.  Take care.

Anyone received their's yet?

I'm sure shipping times will be a little longer, given the holiday's. Just curious.

Oh geez, SORRY Alex! Yes, I did receive them. I honestly meant to let you know and THANK YOU for them. Fantastic work on your part! Many apologies for not getting back to you sooner! I've been very busy co-ordinating a frame purchase that's been taking up an enormous amount of time and effort on my end (have no nails on my fingers anymore!!!). THANKS again!
