Those are the ORIGINAL geared hubs. Cool. I didn't know they had disc-brake models - or even that they had 8 speed hubs! They're famous for their old 3-speed hubs, which supposedly last decades. Too bad that adds lots of unsprung weight, cuz' I'd love a geared hub...

Any ideas where you can buy the Sturmey Archer's?   Those other ones are nice but a grand to replace my derailuer and rings is a bit much.

This company sells Sturmy-Archer hubs but don't list
the 8 speed, maybe worth contacting them though http://www.sjscycles.com/store/vIndex.htm or contact Sturmy-Archer direct,I've read the 8 speed may sell
(over here) for around £170 the Rohloff's are around £700.

Ah, competition. Maybe this will mean that the Rohloff's will have to come down in price a little bit. Of course, it would help if S-A came out with a 14 speed version...

wow! I didn't even know these guys were still in business!!!!   I still have a old 3 speed hub of thiers that I stole off my big sisters bike 18 years ago, and it was well and truly second hand when she had it!!  It's still doing it's tour of duty on my girlfriends commuter and has to be 25 years old at least

Cheers to the engineers who designed that one!!! [smiley=beer.gif]
Wish I had the cash to try one of the 8 speeds!!!

Yes I beleive its the same company but as usual I think its either been bought out and moved to the far east or they moved the themselves, probably why its been quite on the S-A front for a while.

Don't forget to checkout that other hub from freeridehubs, think that a U.S made unit not sure if its a competitive price compared to the Rohloff at a starting price of $995.

Checkout the bottom of this page http://www.freeridehub.com/index.html,
there NOT very complementary regarding Rohloff hubs, could be a case for litigation on this ???

Did anybody find out (or remember) how much the Rohloff hubs weigh?

the S-A are listed at 1510g and that cool freeride hub is listed at 2120g. the freeride hub is cool in that it is infinitely variable.

just wondering.
