Ti spring 4 an NR4 or a Risse Astro 5?
« on: April 03, 2003, 07:09:37 am »
it looks like i 'may' have a working nr4 4 my oz some time in the near future [thanks 2 my buddy Kiwi]  :)

now, i've always liked the nr4 on my 957, so what i'm wondering is this: in yr opinions would i b better off trying 2 source a ti spring 4 this shock - or save up 4 an astro 5?
[i'm thinking the weight issue here obviously]
of course actually finding a ti spring may b a bit of a problem...
i was thinking fox float as well there 4 a while, but i don't know if i can really be bothered with the mod.
fyi: i'm not a freerider, i'm a xc kinda guy...
i look fwd 2 yr comments  :)

IMHO, the only way to go is the Risse Astro 5.
its light, works extremely well, and they will build it for your weight and riding style.
just make sure they send you one with the correct bushing size. it took quite a while for them to send me the correct bushings.

What about the Genesis?
« Reply #2 on: April 03, 2003, 08:55:30 am »
thanks for the advice there Dennis.
ok - another question.
what about the genesis?
i'm thinking about this for three reasons.
1: $$$
2: once i have set my shock up, i don't tend to adjust them 'on the fly'.
3: i just don't like the 'look' of the adjustment lever on the astro 5. i know that's merely aesthetics, but hey - that's me...

the Genesis is a good shock too. no adjustment obviously, but that is the only difference.
btw, I have a couple new Genesis shocks that I was going to use on xlinks, but have not as yet.
in fact, I am only going to use one of them as I am putting a Fox fork on the Oz.
so, if you're interested, let me know. it is the right eye to eye for the rear of the Oz. would just need new bushings, but Risse would take care of that for you. I had the shocks valved for me, and I am roughly 160.
cheers.

Carbon Kiwi,
There are numerous brand new Fox shocks on Ebay right now.  One seller has Vanilla R, RL, and RC  in various spring rates and at good prices.  I just picked up a Vanilla R and it works great.  Most are 7 7/8" length.

No, I am not affiliated with the seller.

ask him the width across the SHOCK at the top to ensure it will fit betwwen the plates. It will be tight at the bottom tto will prolly need the swingarm mounts to be modded as per the foxes etc.

Go for the risse I'v been running a Nr4 for 3 years its been ok but I'm getting a risse, I believe its the best air shock you will get for a straight forward fit and risse recommend them for the carbon K2, other air shock manufactures do not recommend there shocks as the carbon swinging arm flexes putting undue side loads on them, cane creek is a prime example check out the manufactures web sites and e-mail for advice.I did, either way you'll have agreat bike.  [smiley=furious.gif] :P
